Be warned. Whilst the waiting hall (pictured) is impressive, as is the view of Manhattan from the island , the exhibitions themselves are heavy on the reading. Go watch the presentation though.
This fascinating museum gives visitors a great insight into what life was like 100 years ago. Walk where your ancestors once walked and see if you can find your last name in the immigrant database!
Probably the best museum and tour we visited in New York. The quality of the audio guide is amazing and all the information and pieces available make you feel transported in time.
Worth the trip. Dress warm for the ferry ride. Great opportunity to take skyline pics on the ferry . The history is great but boring for small kids. Catch the movie , it is very moving.
Leave lots of time. It takes at least 2 hours to see and listen to everything.
My great grandparents came through here so it was amazing to be able to walk in their shoes . I loved this place for all of the history & you can look up your ancestors & find their records
The mother of US customs. They turned it into a really nice and educational museum . If you want to see all plan in several hours and wear good shoes .
Incredible history. Very educational . I HIGHLY recommend a few hours here. Get the audio tour , very informative.
Take the hard hat tour ! Worth the $45 day of to go over to the part of the island not open to the public. Very cool experience. Avoid the cafe .
The history of American heritage ???? very amazing
Great museum , a piece of history of America and of all the people that came there from all over the world in the first half of last century.
Amazing museum that gives such a great overview of the struggle immigrants faced getting here and how they made this country great.
The museum is OK-ish, but the boat ride from Battery Park out to the island is worth the trip. You don't have to stop at the Statue of Liberty .
Most people pass over this place on their way to the statue . Be sure to spend some time and discover the historical role of the island both in terms of immigration and national identity.
Interesting place full of information. Take your time. - In the restaurant they offer free drinking water.
Absolutely fascinating and well preserved. You can tour the run down medical wings if you book in advance with the park service.
Pretty cool museum learning about the history of immigration at Ellis Island . Head to Theatre 1 to watch a 28 minute video that's pretty interesting.
A visit to New York City must include a tour in Ellis Island Immigration Museum. The history is just a ferry ride away from the city and a priceless experience.
Be sure to go to the research room with computers to look up your own immigrant ancestors (warning -they only allow 30 minutes). Also, use the advanced filter option to narrow the search!
Informative, but you'll only enjoy this if you're a history lover or if you have a personal connection to an immigrant that passed through Ellis Island .
Worth the trip to get a glimpse of your ancestors steps. There isn't a physical log book with the names. You can find it all online.
It was awesome to see it after being in Gdynia immigration museum - the other side of Ellis Island - in Gdynia people started their journey to USA.
Dont try to do everything at once. Take your time and go early! Take the first or second ferry over and it's not too crazy busy
Take a moment and observe the building itself, because it is a gorgeous example of Gilded Age architecture . Absolutely magnificent.
Don't skip out on this. More interesting than the statue of Liberty if you are even a little interested in history. Audio tour is good.
Beautiful museum that tells the story of millions of immigrants . Really amazing.
If pressed for time, spend it here rather than at the Statue of Liberty . Amazing and moving.
Go early! So much to see.
Great place. Definitely a must see! You can easily spend over 2 hours here
Cruise to Statue of Liberty + Ellis Island . I thought the Immigration Museum was the best part.
Really good museum , save a good amount of time to check it out after the Statue of Liberty .
The second stop on your Lady Liberty tour and the one you'll want to allot plenty of time for. Check out the interactive displays and see where over 12 million immigrants came through.
The hard hat tour of the unrestored hospital complex is a must. Humbling and surreal.
This museum tells the tales of the 12 million immigrants who entered America through the golden door of Ellis Island . Be sure to take a day to check it out! Read more
Really interesting and well curated museum .
Every couple of hours, the theater shows a very informative immigration documentary narrated by actor Gene Hackman. A prime opportunity to catch a 45-minute nap.
Great museum ... Great pics of the skyline from outside
I like the interactive tours . A great place to take kids to learn their country 's history.
Be advised, if you buy the high dollar drinks on the boat you better drink them before getting here. No drinks or food allowed inside. Other than that, very cool museum

Incredible piece of history. Everyone should come here at least once!
Her native american art and arab art is up for a bid starting at $1mill. Also like my facebook page. My group was formed to Unify against poverty, racism and violence
Free water in the cafe . They have BOTH still water and sparkeling water.
Lots of History make sure you have enough time to look around after the Statue of Liberty
Don't waste your time with the exhibit about the peopling of America. It's bad history. Go upstairs to the registry exhibits about the immigration process.
Great museum . With awesome exhibits . Check out the computers of the registry.
If you book a guided tour you will totally enjoy it. They know so much.
