This pool is great. It's going on 100 years old so for those that have disparaging remarks they need a reality check & to come to terms w/city living. Or go back to your hotels . Best pool ever!
Biggest free public pool in NYC. Don't forget to bring your own lock for locker. Phones and bags are not allowed in pool area .
It's is super worth the trip to the pool. Very clean and surprising enough it is not very crowded . Don't forget to bring a lock!
Stop by Queens for a lazy summer day at the city ’s largest and oldest pool (dating back to 1936). Once you’re done swimming , you can stroll around Astoria Park along the East River .
Public pools are pretty gross and this one is NY's oldest&largest that's perfect for a summer swim ?! Yeah if you don't mind masses of swimmers &patches of hair in the pool! However, the views are cool
You can’t fathom how large this pool is until you experience it. As with any public pool, make sure you bring a lock, wear appropriate suits and follow all the rules.
To save myself some time instead of going to this 2 ft deep 2000+ kids hole, I fill my bathtub at home, ask all my neigbors to piss in it and have my private Astoria pool session.
Constructed between 1934-36 the Astoria Park Pool was designated in 2007. Its large size and waterfront location offers swimmers dramatic views of the Hell Gate and Triborough Bridges .
Free! But you need a combo lock to enter. Perfect for a summer morning.
The real swimming starts at 7pm with adult laps in 8 lanes. The lanes are split 16 tracts stay to left of line . Stay off the X so serious swimmers can flip turn. Fast lanes 3 on right
Gorgeous views , clean water, friendly neighbors. The perfect summer afternoon activity!
Largest pool I've ever seen in my life. Divided into sections like a Piet Mondrian by lane dividers.
The complex has hosted two US Olympic swimming trials (1936 and 1964) and is a New York City Landmark .
It's okay because all thing you can enjoy in the pool and then police sheriff and astoria park security try to create any minor stupid problems. You are going to jail.
WNYC Radio would like to hear how your summer experience here has been and your opinion on whether public pools are good for NYC. Reply here: http://bit.ly/nycpools/ Read more
Bring your own lock for the cubby lockers. Wear a bathing suit, they will check. Closed 3-4pm. Packed with young kids. Lap lanes are ok unless they put a senior restriction, not sure at what time.
The good sledding is on the hill behind the entrance to the pool. Watch out for trees !
A foul beast rests beneath the murky waters of the old diving pool.
Largest public pool in the 5 boroughs. Don't try to wear any coverup that's not white. They'll make you put it in a locker. Anyone know why this is listed as NY, NY rather than Astoria, Queens? Read more
Huuuuuge pool! They offer a lot of classes !
:-) nice pool
If you want to keep your dignity, avoid this pool. Harassed by employees constantly. No phones permitted. Kept from using the bathroom in locker room until I was wearing only a bathing suit.
Nice pool/setting but super crowded & the locker room is nasty. Stick to one of the NYC beaches !
Bring a Sufficient Lock for the lockers!
Make sure to bring a lock and trunks or bathing suit EVEN if you are not going to swim . They will NOT allow to enter.
Staff here is absolutely RIDICULOUS. Did not even make it to the pool before deciding to leave after getting screamed at like a child. No common courtesy and certainly no respect for others. No thx!
Come with a lock and rubber sole shoes ... No jeans allowed!
Completely worth the crap to get in. Bring a lock, don't mind the yelling park employees.
Lobby of the Astoria Pool
Nice pool. However, nasty, dirty , stinky, disgusting, filthy locker room .
leave ur credit cards at home in case ur bag gets boosted!
It was built in 1936.
Don't forget your lock!
Great running track, skate park as well. Nice view of the RFK bridge too - Martin C
Great water views & views of Randall’s Island. Great for a walk or a bike ride! - Kimmie Ohh
Amazing pool for lap swim but gets super crowded after work and weekend mornings! Must have swim cap, lock and membership card for entry. - Anna Karnowski
Great pool. A bit expensive, but very big. The water in the big pool was warm, but in the kiddie pool it was too cold. Very clean also, though the locker room and bathrooms should be much bigger. - Erika Papendorf Bustos
Two words: water slide - Brian Christopher
Try the Kielbasa - With sauerkraut, fries, pickles, and white rye bread. It was *delicious*. - Julie F
