용암문은 1711년 축성된 북한산성의 여러 성문 가운데 하나로 용암봉(龍岩峯) 기슭 해발 580미터 지점에 위치하고 있다. 지난날 이 일대의 수비를 담당했던 용암사(龍巖寺)라는 절이 성문과 가까운 곳에 있었다고 전하는데, 현재 무인대피소로 운영중인 북한산대피소 자리가 바로 그곳이다.

龍岩門은 無人待避所인 北漢山莊 부근 龍岩峯 기슭 海拔 580m 地點에 位置하고 있습니다. 지난날 이 一帶의 守備를 擔當했던 龍巖寺가 附近에 있었다고 합니다.
1993年 4月에 撮影된 復元되기 前의 北漢山城 龍岩門 모습으로 城 안쪽에서 바라본 모습을 撮影한 것으로 보입니다. 龍岩門은 1994年에 復元되었습니다.
