My family is from Hunan. This is hands down the most authentic Hunan restaurant I've ever come across in Manhattan. Service was really good too! Be sure to get the REAL Hunan food , not Szechuan!!!

What's Good Here

Eggplant with Minced Pork Garlic Sauce - spicy but w/o the burn, this dish is flavorful & benefits from the sautéed garlic slices. It is oily so be sure use it to top rice .

The New Yorker

“Hunan Manor may look like any other Chinese restaurant … and the menu has plenty of Americanized favorites, but there are few places outside of Queens that offer the food of Mao’s birthplace.” Read more

Serious Eats

The specialty here is the cuisine of Hunan, spicy food with all manner of dried, smoked, and pickled meat and vegetables . Get the fish with chili oil sauce and the dried beef with white peppers .

Karen

Hands down, some of the best Asian food in the area. Try the chicken w. black mushroom lunch special (the free wonton soup is so, so good). The Singapore mei fun is also special. Love everything here.

Brian London

Aside from an insane number of chopped dried red chilies the cumin lamb was excellent. The chilies, while not insufferably hot, are just a touch chewy. The mixed veg was excellent.

Alice Eunjin

Newly renovated and so much nicer than before! I like tofu with baby shrimp , baked cabbage , fish stir fry , and their dumplings

Tom

They offer authentic chinese food that is quite tasty but they also have "Panda Express-like" offerings as well . A short walk from Grand Central Terminal.

Great lunch specials ! You get choice of white rice/brown rice / veggie fried rice , soup , and your main dish. All for around $8.20. Awesome hot & sour soup ; very spicy .

What's Good Here

Skip the Americanized dishes at the top of the lunch menu and order the delicious, slightly smokey and not too spicey doubled cooked pork with dried bean curd .

What's Good Here

Order the Sauted Preserved Pork With Green Leek . A tad salty and smokey, its pork belly that goes well with white rice

What's Good Here

For a delicious appetizer , order the Pork Dumplings in Chili Oil . Spicy and plentiful to share

What's Good Here

This is the Minced Pork and Bean Curd Sheets in Hot Sour Sauce. Delicious, very flavorful and with a kick that lingers

If you look for authentic Chinese in midtown east, I recommend Hunan manor & cafe china. Hunan food is also known for spicy , but not Sichuan food . We got crab & lobster here!!

Chenyu

Forget about #ramen & let the Hunan Chinese show you how rice noodle is done right (with spicy & sour pickled string beans )

Ricky Sherrill

If you love spicy takeout this is your place. My goto dishes are Tangerine Chicken & General Tso's Chicken . They will also deliver .

Rita L

Ask for less spicy on all the dishes and their food is actually good. Try the boiled fish in red oil, tofu on grilled plate, eggplant , beef with pepper :)

Andrew Cerda

Lunch specials are about $8.20 without drink or additions. Take out / pick up takes a good 15-20 minutes during lunch so order before you wait.

Stephanie Zhong

Authentic Hunan restaurant ! I'd recommend the fish in spicy broth , eggplants , and sprouts dishes

Ray Liu

Changsha native here. Their Hunan special menu is legit.

Pema Choden

Make sure you spell out your order. I got the wrong order and your lunch order does take time. Pickup is cheaper than eating in.

Tim Mischuk

Easily the best real Hunan Chinese Food in NYC. Fast service too.

Arvind Das

Go early for dinner , staff is polite but makes sure you finish your meals quickly.

My favorite mapo tofu in the city .

Went there at 9:30 and they wouldn’t let us in. Their dog says they close at 10pm.
