Never eat the soon lee char kuey teow . I got 4$ and there were 2 prawns and no cockles whatsoever. Hoho delicacies is something u shld look out for. Peanut sesame ball is amazing!
Prata . Sampled A) Mohamed Jaleel #01-122 & B) Wan Adam's #01-124. If we were to order again, we'd pick B cos of lighter dhal curry , although A's roti was chewier to bite (curry is mutton-based)
Teochew kueh: Home-made style (dat's d stall sign) #01-118 sees brisk sales 4 their traditional snacks . Made-on-d-spot soon kueh (turnip ), ang gu kueh, png kueh (glutinous rice ), gu chai kueh (chives )
Indonesian dishes. Anthony Indonesian Cuisine #01-63 lets u pick (mainly) spicy dishes with rice . This plate $5.20. There are also convenient set meals . Prices clearly displayed on stall sign
Nasi Lemak Chinese style. Good food from Wan Xing 万兴椰浆饭•炒米粉 #01-62. Slightly sweet yet savory chili paste . Lightly fragrant rice . I'd prefer their fried fish to be crispier
Vegetarian options : popiah (spring roll ), chwee kueh (rice cake ), chai tow kway (fried carrot cake ), beancurd , red/green bean soup , yutiao (dough fritters ), pancakes , fruits , yam cake , rojak salad
The wanton mee from stall #01-118 is delicious! Stall name is called Traditional Wanton Noodle .
Old school delight of ma po lor mee with fried fish . For $3 quite a lot of deep fried fish though some was just flour. Noodle amt just right not too much. Long serving spoon for chilling and garlic .
#01-78/79 The Chwee Kuey and Congee stalls are side-by-side and the best you can get within a 10-mile radius. Absolutely delicious. Try both and have your carb intake for the day!
Cold drinks. Based on warnings by fellow 4SQ users abt 日好 The Drinking Point #01-93, sidestepped the sugarcane juice & ordered a homemade honey lemon drink instead. Thirst quenching????????
Kaya buns in the morning. Chew's Stall sees a constant stream of customers for breakfast . Besides the usual beverages, office workers favour their kaya buns (not toast ) & ham-egg-cheese sandwich
Char Kway Teow . Fragrant plate from Ren Fried Kway Teow Mee #01-117. While missing 'la pok' (fried pork lard cubes), the chef uses ample sweet soy sauce for a wet savoury-sweet taste
Wantan mee . Pleasantly surprised with tasty WTM fr 270 Traditional Wanton Noodle #01-118. Generous filling in their 4 wantans (2 r fried). Soup was good. Char siew looks like vegetarian version :-)
If you're in for something filling get the Ma Bo Lor Mee . A sticky, spicy thick brothed noodle dish . I added fried fish to mine for some extra protein.
#stervylicious #meepok - best day!! - decided to try this stall cos there's a queue at 630am for it.. :p must say i Love the Fishball . - must try - hock Lee Fishball noodles /#01-102
Recommend the famous hundred years Hakka noodles ! The noodles taste a bit blend, but the soup and ingredients are solid good. Prawns , meat ball , and tofu !
Satay bee hoon . Decent dish from Meng Hui #01-111. Compared to Teochew Satay Bee Hoon (Tg Pagar food centre level 2) which I ate 4 days back, this stall not as substantial or flavourful, & is pricier
Trishaws. If u hv out-of-town guests who want to gamely take a ride on a trishaw, there's a tourist kiosk nxt to the food ctr. SGD 39/person for 30-min ride ard a fixed route in the area
Lor Mee (yellow noodles w savoury starchy sauce). Enjoyed a bowl from Ma Bo #01-67. Sauce was very savoury (too much MSG?), fish nugget crispy . Basic bowl; don't expect crispy bits, shredded fish meat
Bak Chor Mee (minced pork noodles ). 潮州面之家 #01-53 prepares a decent bowl. Generous with ingredients, especially liver . Only missing vegetables . This bowl $5
Soy beancurd . Clean & simple dessert from Rochor Soya Bean #01-91. This beancurd is topped with almond slices & a splash of almond-scented syrup $2
Did u know? Albert Street, from which Albert Centre got its name from, was named after Prince Albert, the consort of Queen Victoria of England. Source: Infopedia
DIY popiah : Homemade Springroll #01-80 also sells handmade Popiah skin ($15/kg), ground peanuts , crispy bits, chilli sauce , etc to host ur own Popiah party @ home :-)
Pig trotter meat rice . As a novelty, I’d pay the $4.90 to sample from Lin Ji #01-113. But that’s it. Rice bowl is served with salted vege & a slice of meatcake (the cousin of fishcake ????)
Hokkien prawn mee . Cannot compare Traditional Queen St #01-61 with Tian Tian Lai (Toa Payoh Lor 1) but it's a decent dish. 2 prawns for $4. It sees non-stop traffic during mealtimes
源记 fried carrot cake , tasty, lots of egg and the uncle is probably one of the most polite Hawker u can find in Singapore !
The Lor Mee rocks! There's a reason y the Q is so long..the chicken pieces in the chicken cutlet Lor Mee , for instance, r huge, tasty, crunchy n fresh! Worth waiting in line ..will try the fish next
Nice bar at Albert Court Hotel to chill and relax after a long day at work. Few North Indian restaurants to satisfy your taste buds too. I love to come here to shoot and take pictures :)
Economy rice 'chai png'. Enjoyed the curry from Yummy Rice Shop #01-53; spicy & tasty. Dish options were decent too
Teochew-style fish soup : When I'm looking 4 something light & clean , I sometimes head to Angel Horse #01-95 (beside famous fishball stall Hock Lee). The usual fresh fish , tasty soup
Chicken rice . Decent $3.50 set from Ricky Hainanese Boneless Steamed Chicken Rice #01-113. Soup had chicken essence, rice aromatic. Chicken could be more plump
On the 3rd floor is the popular wholesale dried goods floor. Immense choices, types & brands. Popular during Chinese New Year
Yay! GREAT food all around! Try the taiwanese dessert , pretty yummy or homemade springrolls! YUM!
Avoid this stall #01-103. owner is rude n food is plain n bland. Hard white rice with tasteless meat and bare minimum sauce. Avoid table in frnt of her. She invites her friends to join and push u out.
their Ma Bo lor mee (and chicken cutlet ) is the best, the queue can get all the way to the back. Recommended accompaniment: Fried fish .
Yuan Ji fried carrot cake #01-59 the white carrot cake is big portion at $2.50 its enough for 2 person, personally think is quite salty when u eat more n more...
Just get yourself prepare for the no air condition environment but you can have the real local feel and taste !
Thirst and heat quenching cold Cheng Teng from dessert station #01-41. Ingredients are good. Full of shaved ice . Getting pricy at 1.80
MSG in congee : Ate pork congee fr Seng Huat #01-83. Thot I saw cook flick in a spoonful of whitish powder while preparing my bowl. It was tasty initially but I developed a headache 4 rest of day :-(
Kopi: Hua Ling Hng #01-99 is d rare remaining 1s who brews his coffee over a charcoal stove . & kopi tastes & smells gr8 too!
Access from carpark. There are two staircases leading up from the carpark, each at a corner of the food centre, diagonally across from each other
Ma po lor mee at the price of $2.50 is quite a big portion ,personally hope the gravy to be blacker n thicker, still prefer tiong bahru market lor mee
Soya milk . Fragrant drink from Tong Cheng Yuan #01-48, although I don’t see any equipment that indicate milk was produce onsite
If you like Lor Mee then try stall Ma Bo Lor Mee @ 01-67. There are a variety of Lor Mee plus the thick gravy remains thick till end of meal.
Yong tau foo : There r 2 stalls : Tien Fook #01-116 & Bai Nian #01-58. TF has std offerings + laksa . BN serves fixed set of items (think Ampang YTF). Although soup tastes 'clean ', most items r salty.
Congee (thick porridge ): #01-78 serves a delightful range of 'jok'. Our fave varieties: century egg , fish & frog legs . Grab additional yu tiao (fried dough fritters ) fr #01-115, to dip . Slurp!
Delicious food in all food stalls we have visited. Especially these rolls! Yumm!
Crowded and hot but still the place to go for dry goods for the CNY because there are plenty of stores to compare prices. Most stores here accept CDC vouchers too!
POSB/DBS ATM : Nearest is just @ Bugis Street across the road , along Cheng Yan Pls & facing Bugis+ (50m away). NOT @ Rochor Centre which is 200m walk!
Go to Ma Bo Lor Mee #01-67, it's great. Also had some excellent fruit juice , very friendly guy , Donald fresh fruit juice #01-82
