On July 4th, the fireworks are visible from anywhere on the river , but be aware that Storrow Drive is closed to cars, so you can find a spot in the middle of the street.

It gets crowded during the summer when it's nice out, but there's an adorable little dock a little ways right of the bridge that comes across from Silber Way, great to sit and dip your feet in or tan !

Spend an afternoon with an hour long walk on the Esplanade, which is a gorgeous park that runs up and down the Charles River .
On July 4th, if you want to get a spot up front, you need to show up with a blanket, chairs, and food for the day at 9am when they open it up to the public. Overall, watching from Cambridge is easier. Read more

There is a stretch that only connects to land by a series of bridges . Great place for dogs to roam and not run off.
Despite what everyone might tell you, do NOT take the metro home from 4th of July at the Esplanade. Drive in early and get street parking .

The Boston Pops does a full dress rehearsal on July 3 of its awesome show. It's a lot less crowded and less stressful than going to the final show.
