The Plaza is New York City’s official Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The Memorial and the surrounding plaza provides and maintains a valuable and overdue tribute to the men and women who served in the Vietnam War. Visitors can view letters, news clippings, photos, honor plaques and more.

Wikipedia: Part of the Memorial is built on land that was once part of Coenties Slip, an artificial inlet in the East River for the loading and unloading of ships that was land-filled in 1835.
It's almost unknown to typical tourist , who usually takes shortest ruote between staten island ferry and wall street. It's a pity, it is so touching in its semplicity.
