Fun place! I think we took tambourines off the wall and played them with the band at one point! My friend did have the back pocket of his jeans cut open and his wallet stolen there, though.
Fun place!!! In the heart of Detroit downtown, with live music and good drinks ❤️
Soul food and very stiff drinks. Best bet? Meet the owner, Larry D'Mongo, and listen to his stories: If they aren't always factual, they're entertaining as hell.
Went here on Saturday night and while it was busy we didn't have to wait for a table. Fantastic music & drinks but didn't have fernet.
Andrew and Chuck Bennett visited Cafe d'Mongo's for an upscale version of Detroit soul food . Andrew tasted Leroy's version of peking duck . As seen on Bizarre Foods America . Read more
Favorite place in Detroit! Great atmosphere, love the live music and staff behind the bar . Mike - iRepairMotown
Definitely packed but such a fun vibe! Drinks are cheap and strong!
Try a Detroit Brown , get down with some awesome local music , and take in the ambiance!
Happenin' joint!!! Have not had the opportunity to sample the food yet, but the atmosphere for cocktails is mighty entertaining. Highly recommend for an offbeat experience in good ol' Motown.
I mean, this place couldn't get ANY cooler if it tried. No words to describe this place. You have to check it out! Hip . Hot. Sexy. Cool. <3
One of my favorite spots in Detroit. The fabulous Jennie Knaggs performs every other Friday usually. Great vibe, great people, great food. Just great.
Try a Detroit Brown (ask red, courtney or christine), and for the love of god get there early enough for soul food .
This place is awesome! Lots of attitude everywhere! Must get to know it!
Make this stop the Friday night highlight of your week. Live music , booze flowing and the chicken and ribs are the talk of the town .
Weird time warp - feels like the 40s, 80s, 90s at the same time. Only open Fridays. Say hello to Larry and Diane.

This is a great place to chill with an a great mix of people on a Friday night. Plus the Food is Great also.
The greatest, disorganized, bric-a-brack bar in the known universe .
Usually very crowded , so get there early!
Friendly and welcoming for service animals!
George the piano player is awesome. Their menu is not vegetarian friendly :( the décor is like Applebee's on Jazz ;)
always a slamming time when the band gets going
Finally Friday!
Enjoy where the locals come to grab a drink and listen to live music .
just be careful some of the chairs have some nails that protrude. Nothing to be concerned about, just keep an eye out.
Some spots are like sitting in your grandmas old furniture . Prepare for your chin to be table height.
Get it right, get it tight
Amsterdance. Weakest drink in ages. Music should be good later
Drink alot. Listen to the mysic. And dont stare at the walls too much!

It's a dark hipster hangout . It seems appropriate to drink things on the rocks.
If you think you're looking at a mirror and don't see your reflection, don't worry, you didn't disappear. You're just a drunk fucking idiot staring at the other side of the room.
Love the crowd and the cheap drinks .
Awesome place all in all!
Couldn't be cooler.
Play the astrological sign guessing-game.
Open only Friday night and some Saturdays. Go here for food and drinks and stay all night for the live music and amazing people watching !
Id never go here again.
Unless you like your drinks uncomfortably strong, ask for them a little watered down and they are much better
Bee’s knees, no syrup :)
More than a fantastic venue, food, atmosphere, this is a must have experience if visiting Detroit. - Todd Weisrock
This place is GREAT! I feel guilty trying to keep it my little secret, but the drummer series was amazing. I now have a new place to go once in a while! - Barb Tate-Renaud
Awesome lunch special (more like lunch and dinner special). Wings, Whiting or Pork-chop, all fried, with 2 sides for $8. Soul Food heaven! - James Pozenel
Best Coney dogs in the world. I recommend this place to everyone - Gibron B
The Coney is really a tasty euro-style frankfurter with a delicious rich chili on top. The yellow mustard interferes with the flavor imo. The wings are fabulous! - Robert D Wilson
