As a Texan, I can say that this is the BEST Tex-Mex in NYC. Sad to see it has a low rating. Authentic queso , great brisket and amazing margs .
Veggie fajitas with queso ($20) means you get 4 tortillas , 2 quesos , chips , mini guac , rice , beans, tomatoes , plus tons of grilled veggies .. best deal at javelina for sure
Displaced Southerner looking for an authentic Mexican joint: this isn't it. BUT it's as close as you'll find in NYC. REAL white cheese dip . Good tacos , tamales & enchiladas . Salsa a little too sweet.
GrubStreet: most authentically Tex-Mex rest in NYC in range of offerings (serves San Antonio puffy tacos ) and overall tastiness... sizzling umami explosion that is its fajitas are some of the best
Avocado margarita or sangria swirl margarita to drink. Get the queso blanco & juicy brisket tacos to eat. Order the puffy pork tacos too!
Tried the carne asada tonight and it was GLORIOUS. Comes with a mushroom enchilada for a little play on steak and mushrooms . The owner, Matt, came by & said hello, a nice personal touch.
One of the loudest rooms I've been in in a while. Would be tough to talk to a date here. Good vibe. Really good food. Try the avocado cilantro margarita .
NYC only tex-mex option. A little taste of Austin in NYC, very good and definately the best we got. The chips and cheese are too good
Veggie cocktails are having a huge moment, and you can stay on trend with the creamy and surprisingly tasty Avocado margarita here. (Oh, an avocado is a fruit ? Whatever.) Read more
cute place! queso dip and pork tamales with red chile sauce were delicious. very friendly service but it's teeny and gets loud , so best for smaller parties.
You have to order White Queso . It's so hard to find in NYC
Very loud but fun. The margaritas taste like they use a sugary premade mix. The queso is amazing/ glorified nacho cheese dip . The San Antonio puffy taco is awesome but the fried corn tortilla is OD.
The must-have menu item is the Bob Armstrong ($12), a bowl of melted cheese topped with beef , guacamole and sour cream and served with an unlimited supply of tortilla chips . Read more
Nicest staff (surprise, they're 90% Texans), and delicious drinks and food, even if not exact replicas of the dishes they pay tribute to.
Tex-Mex invokes visions of nachos and queso , which are certainly delicious at this new Gramercy spot, but the frozen avocado margaritas are a thing of splendor. Read more
Can't decide between guac or queso ? Get the Mag Mud, it's both! Steak enchiladas were super flavorful and the spicy margarita was one of the best I've had!
Fajitas are pretty good for Tex-Mex in New York. The best NY rendition I’ve had in two years here.
Order Queso , steak fajitas , and margaritas (I didn't like the enchilada or poblano pepper as much) Great food and drinks!
The queso sampler is amazeballs
Awesome Tex-Mex place. Special mention to the Maître d for arranging for dinner to be cooked after the kitchen closed. She was an amazing hostess .
Get your Tex-Mex on at the newly opened Javelina in Gramercy. I highly recommend the Bob Armstrong queso and the avocado margarita to start your evening off right.
July 24th: Sip a refreshing avocado margarita at Mexican hot spot Javelina. (Veggie cocktails are really in right now.) Read more

Don't let the Avocado and Cilantro margarita scare you -- Easily one of the best on the menu!
Love me some original breakfast tacos with chorizo . Treat yo self and add avocado to them. If you're thinking about a Bloody Mary , pass. Not impressed with them.
I felt like I was back in Houston! The mag mud made me extremely happy to find authentic queso in NY.
The San Antonio Puffy Tacos are a textual adventure of deliciousness. A must have along with the Bob Armstrong Queso . My new go to spot.
If you need a Tex-Mex fix this place is pretty tasty. Try the queso and puffy tacos . They apparently have breakfast tacos on the weekends.
Queso & avocado tacos are on point. Love the Shiner on tap . Not quite as good as being in Austin but closer than a plane ride.
Got takeout from here - it was really fresh and tasty. They forgot to give me chips to go with the queso and guac so check your bag before you leave!
Frozen avocado margarita , white queso , and fajitas are my favs.
Loved the mag mud queso & the gigantic mixed grill fajitas platter thingy (the chicken was great). Skip the avocado tacos , bland.
Amazing queso and Texan ceaser but we were so rushed!! Plenty of empty tables and we had a reservation but they tried to take my food before I was done TWICE.
Queso like they got back home in Texas. Get the sampler platter and definitely don't miss the brisket tacos .
Great new addition to gramercy/unionsq.. The avocado margaritas are a must! Guac and chicken fajitas were excellent.
Fajitas are delicious and huge portions . For cocktails - loved the Paloma
Get the Bob Armstrong, followed by the Puffy Tacos , and some Frozen Margs
It would be a huge mistake to not get the Mag Mud queso . Definitely the best in the city !
The Mexican Martinis (aka MexiMarts) are very good and very strong. Consider yourself warned.
Mud queso tasted like home. Best tex mex in NYC, hands down.
The Bob Armstrong is DELICIOUS!
$6 frozen margs and $8 margs on the rocks during HH from 3-6pm
The white Queso is unheard of in NYC--it used to be the only thing I missed about my native Texas, now it's here! TL;dr--order it!
Queso (all are good) and steak and chicken fajitas (sunset style).
Best queso and margaritas !!! Get both and enjoy the flavors melt in your mouth.
Guilty pleasure- very heavy but pretty good food. The Mag Mud dip was quite good but the other quesos were underwhelming. Pescado Cilantro was incredibly good. Very loud place, even when almost empty.
The mag mud queso is amazing and will fill you up. Steak fajitas are good but expensive and not mindblowing.
The "Puffy" Pork Taco was ok. The puffy taco was somewhat gimmicky and didn't add to the taste. It was too oily but had a significant amount of meat. Chips+queso was pretty good!
Good lunch near Union square. Yummy javelina salad and decent fish tacos . Chips are just fine.
Queso is awesome. Got the puff tacos and they were great!
get any special taco - al pastor, fried fish taco, and carnitas all good - Harry Davis
The eggs Benedict and French toast are a delight here. Also, $11.95 for a brunch entrée plus coffee or tea is a great deal! - Honghui Yu
Great burgers! Vintage decor two thumbs up! And John was super awesome! - Claire Doppman
Great venue. Have been going here for ever and never had an issue getting close. Sound is also pretty great compared to other nyc venues. - Melissa Rosenthal
