Actually meant to check-in on the Butler Hike/Bike Trail , but regardless the trail goes all along the river/lake with spectacular views of the skyline and plenty of shaded seating areas all around
If you like running, this is the place to go in ATX. It's close to downtown, easily accessible, & the skyline views are priceless. Visit the water-side trail for a taste of the outdoors in a big city .

Nice, leisurely stroll along the river . Lots of turtles and birds. Places to sit and rest. Shady and sandy walkway. No big hills and some landmarks to see.

Control your dogs!! I love our four legged friends, but I have seen 3 people flat out face plant in 3 weeks due to other people's dogs. People and dogs are getting hurt!
Park on the north side of the lake near the Lamar street bridge , next to the new footbridge. The loops are really easy to understand, and make sure to hydrate.

Get out of the bikers' and runners' way if you're just going on a stroll. Austin has a lot of fit people. If you're too slow, you'll incur their Texan wrath.

In the summer, you will want to run as early as possible to avoid the heat. The evenings do not cool off much before it gets dark.

Run as hard as you can but take a second to enjoy a walk across the pedestrian bridge . It. Is. Zen.
(4.2 mi) Park beneath the Mopac Bridge , cross the lake at the South 1st bridge and loop back to Mopac. Water coolers there to greet you at the start and finish!

I always have the strong urge to run into people who go more than 2 across in the middle of the trail .
Do: wear sunscreen ! At least on your face/neck.... I always forget and end up with a lovely sunglasses tan on my face.
Stay on the right side. Cyclists can use the lance Armstrong trail for a little... Less congestion.
