ANZAC War Memorial is a memorial site City of Sydney Hyde Park located in Australia.
126 Elizabeth St Sydney NSW 2000 Australia
This place is free to visit. But donate 2 dollars to get a coin. Plus talk to the guys behind the counter and they will tell you anything about the memorial. The kids loved it plus they got postcardsx
Free exhibition downstairs with memorabilia from Australia's involvement in various conflicts that captures the ANZAC spirit. Take the time to read the letters and diaries, incredibly moving.
The centrepiece is a stunning scuplture called Sacrifice by Rayner Hoff which I always find elegant and moving. His work also appears around the building. Wonderful art deco design by Bruce Dellit.
Defiantly go inside its worth to see
ANZAC war memorial established on 1934, I'm sure if they knew another one will started 5 years later, they could stop and build the bigger one after 1945 !
Before ascending into the memorial visit the Spirit of Anzac exhibition on the ground floor. It is so interesting with great oral histories, a short film+moving memorabilia . Contemplative+profound
The Symbol of Sacrifice is looked at during the Remembrance Service, held daily at 11am. A moving service any day, even more so when the Symbol of Sacrifice draws in your attention and reverence.
Very interesting place. The guides are very helpful and knowledgeable .
Make sure you check out the exhibition . Well worth a visit.
a very touching tribute for all of the fallen soldiers defending good causes since WW I
The most homoerotic sculpture outside of the MCA- and that's high praise. Check out the story of the art and the artist
"Designed to express with dignity+simplicity neither the glory nor the glamour of war,but those nobler attributes of human nature which the war of 1914-18 so vividly brought forth."
Inside there's a beautiful starry dome and peace and quiet . Also good view of Hyde Park . And it's sad.
The dome is full of golden stars - Stars of Memory, 120,000 honouring the men+women from NSW who enlisted for service on WW1.
It always touches me to come here
Well-worth the visit.
Lest We Forget
Don't sit on the steps
