Make sure to try Maguro Tuna and pork buns for appetizer . Classic ramen has thick, rich soup ; Modern is more fragrant and oily; Spicy one is wonderful is you could stand the heat!

Sam Pezzullo

Everything is delicious. Best Ramen noodles in NYC by far. Try the Akamaru Modern with Nitamago (soft boiled egg ) and a side of Bakudan (spicy paste.) You'll be glad you did.

Rebecca Balnis

Is that a beer margarita ? Oh its just a frozen head. Right ..right. One beer margarita please!

Ryan Sarver

Best ramen in the US. Don't be afraid to go solo as you can almost always sit down right away at the counter

Tricia

After a lively and surprising welcome from staff upon being seated, service is on point and ambiance energetic. Shishito peppers are a must with a sake cocktail to start. Veggie Ramen is outstanding!

Shiromaru Hakata Classic: A silken, opaque broth; firm and carefully crafted noodles ; and a braised pork belly as good as any in town . Long waits still common. Read more

Kinjil Mathur

vegetarian ramen is delicious and doesn't feel second rate at all. pro tip: as for the garlic crusher and sesame seed grinder .

Gothamist

For the fall season, they decided to try something unusual for NYC's ramen scene, debuting Atsumori Tsukemen, a dipping-style ramen that's not found at most ramen-yas on this side of the Pacific. Read more

Get the akamaru modern if it's your first time -- by far the most popular. Otherwise, the spicy miso ramen at the bottom of the menu. And obviously, you need to the pork buns . Better than momofuku.

Time Out New York

Ippudo was brought to NYC by Shigemi Kawahara, who is known as "the Ramen King" in Japan; his rich, cloudy tonkotsu broths draw the longest lines the city 's ramen-ya, and they're well worth the wait. Read more

My favorite ramen place in the east village ! Eating here once will change your perception of ramen noodles from an essential part of every poor college student 's diet to a fantastic, delicious meal!

Niki Katherine Holmes

The kitchen is visible, it’s noisy , & the staff speaks a Japanese welcome while seating you. The food is out of this world good (w/excellent vegetarian & vegan options ). Expect to pay $20-30 pp.

Dan Fetzner

Great scene, great vibe. The Akamaru Modern Ramen was off the charts, as were the pork and shrimp buns . Don't take res but they have a cool bar up front for while you wait (and it's worth the wait)

Akansha Agarwal

Vegetarians - get the Wasabi Ramen (with a spiced egg and their homemade spicy paste if you like some heat). The mascarpone dessert is good, but I liked the macha creme brûlée much better

Harlem’s Hungry

Love love love the ramen ! Broth was super flavorful and the service top notch best I’ve had in my years of dining out. Food was super flavorful and cooked perfectly definitely will return#friedchicken

Ashley Rose

Start off with the speciality Brooklyn Brew- only available here. And feast on shishito peppers , melt in your mouth pork buns and Akamaru modern Ramen 🍜

Dirissy Doan

Shishito peppers , Cucumber (with the sesame oil ), ramen , and pork belly buns are extraordinarily AMAZING!!! I could've done without the lychee martini but it was good too...

Zach Carlile

Great atmosphere, great service, and amazing food. Start with the pork belly buns or chicken wings . For ramen , I’d suggest Akamaru Modern with a soft boiled egg for your first time.

What's Good Here

This is the best ramen place in NYC. If you get there before noon, you can avoid the longer waits. For appetizers , go for the pork buns and the wings . The wings are finger licking good.

diana🐇

i always order pork buns and the vegetarian (vegan ?) wasabi shoyu ramen , the noodles are much thicker than the ones in the tonkutsu, and bamboo is included!

summer daidone

This is one of the best restaurants I've been to in New York. The service is amazing, the food is unlike anywhere else, and the atmosphere is fun and lively . You will not be disappointed.

Marie La Rue

OG Ippudo location on NYC. Never disappoints, still the best ramen in the city . Great atmosphere and good for people watching . Only downside is the wait which can be quite long.

What's Good Here

Get this. Akamaru Modern - silky "Tonkotsu " (pork ) soup noodles topped w/ Ippudo's secret "Umami Dama" miso paste, pork chashu , cabbage , sesame kikurage mushrooms , scallions , & fragrant garlic oil

M. C.

Really nice restaurant , delicious ramen , optional with tofu for vegetarians , really nice design, open clean kitchen and cozy atmosphere !

Gal Amir

Just awesome! Worth the wait.. You can stop by and let the host know you want a table.. They'll text you before it's ready, so you can walk around.. Everything on the menu was great!

Candace Chang

I always forget how great the ramen is. And how full you are after since the broth is so rich. Love the Akamaru Modern with a poached egg . Most importantly, don't skimp out on the pork belly buns

Alex Rainert

This place is a gem if you're in the neighborhood and want a quick delicious meal for one. While there's always a line outside, if you're solo they'll almost always get you in immediately.

Kimmie Ohh

Always add the ajitsuke tamago (season boiled egg aka ramen egg ) to your ramen order! It elevates your dish & adds extra creaminess, depth & flavor to your ramen . In short , the egg completes the dish!

Rubén García

Possibly the best ramen in the city , and great appetizers as well

Jonathan Levy

Asian cuisine is on a whole other level here in New York and Ippudo confirms it either it's steamed buns or okonomiyaki and ramen 🍜 everything is awesome 👌🏻! Hats off 😜

Cam_in_Bris

Good classic pork ramen (without being mind blowing). Frozen top beer fun. Waiters friendly but seemed a bit too quick to clear food/ask if you wanted the bill IMHO.

Serious Eats

Profoundly porky broth and excellent noodles make this a ramen destination worth waiting for.

Noora

My first time having ramen , and I'm happy it was in here! Already the fried chicken buns would be worth the normal two-hour wait (arrived 5pm and were seated in 10mins). Ramen was fresh and tasty too!

Elena Hatib

One of my favorite ramen spots. I love the Akamaro Modern with soft boiled egg and the pork buns are a must!

PureWow

The combo of melty red miso and garlic oil in the akamura modern ramen bowl is addictive. Slurping is highly encouraged. Read more

Upscale ramen , like a Buddakan or Tao but ramen . Loud electro music , $20 ramen (Akamaru shinaji) but it tasted good- egg not included. The staff yells to welcome you (warmly). Communal tables

Salih Seckin Sevinc

I tried spicy ramen 🍜 with extra hot sauce Bakudan and loved it. Everyone is shouting Japanese words in here. The taste and the energy is great. Long wait times 👎🏼 They don't accept reservations .

Leo Sumulong

Definitely one of the best ramen joints in the city . Wait times can be longish, but stick it out. It's worth it. The pork buns are fantastic, and you can't go wrong with the Akamaru Modern ramen .

Dens

The "modern ramen " is great. Start off with some chicken wings if you're feeling extra healthy :)

Cameron W

The pork bun is a must have. The tonkotsu broth is sensational. The essence of pork is more present at Daikokuya in LA but the broth here is more nuanced. Hard to pick between them for best tonkotsu .

Abdulelah Al-Gosaibi

If I could rate this place greater than 10/10 I would. Everything here is just amazing. Fried chilli peppers , spicy ramen , ichriraku ramen , and wagyu rolls.

Samantha Mushnick

Delicious. Best pork buns I've ever had. Pictures is the akamaru modern ramen . Also great. However, i like my ramen spicier so if I go back I would order a spicier ramen .

Village Voice

The Akamaru Modern is the most popular. Silky broth and aromatic garlic oil coats the super-thin, elastic noodles . Tender pork chasu, cabbage , sesame kikurage mushrooms , & scallions are placed atop.

George Wallace

We came her twice for Ramen while in New York. You can't go wrong with the classic Ramen , the pickled mushrooms they put in are delicious.

Untapped Cities

The franchise promotes themselves as a restaurant that 'transformed ramen into art .' Here in NYC, we are very fortunate to have two locations here: one in the East Village and one in Midtown.

Tarik Hart

Group of 4 and we ordered: Hirata Chicken , Hirata Pork Buns (2x), Umami Mekyabetsu (Brussel Sprouts ), and then each got our Ramen (I got Akamaru Modern w/toppings). Perfect amount, amazing as always!

Jwow

The Akamaru Modern ramen with egg and extra garlic oil will warm your spirit any day of the week! Put your name in and wander around the neighborhood while you wait.

Eater

Noodle fans line up daily at 5 PM to get a table at this East Village Japanese restaurant before the real crowds form, because the ramen is just that good. [Eater 38 Member]

Justine Bloome

Get the vegetarian ramen with wasabi . You can add meat if you like. But rest assured, the vegetarian broth beats all the other broths, Hands Down.

Michelle Wiles

Akamaru Modern is one of the best dishes in the city . Go by yourself to recharge, and skip the long wait as the waitstaff will place you wherever there is an opening
