Wonderful outdoor venue to listen to a concert . That said you won’t see too much from the lawn seats.
Before your trip to Chicago, look up which free events are taking place here and make time to attend! They are almost always excellent!
Check out the concerts or movies in the park over the summer!! They usually start at 6 or 6:30 and last until 8ish. Bring a blanket and a bottle of wine and enjoy!

There was live music ... and you could hear it many blocks away!!! Love the open-air style amphitheatre and grassy area for extra seating!
If you're in the lawn, sit as close as you can. In the back, you can't hear the music over people clinking their glasses and getting publicly drunk.
Perfect night spent! Gather up your classy friends! Bring some elegant wine bust out your meat and cheese boards . Drink, Veg out, laugh, listen and enjoy the beauty that emulates from the stage

The view from the choral balcony (inside looking out) is quite extraordinary, especially when you've been on the outside looking at the stage.

There are plenty of FREE concerts put on by the City of Chicago during the summer time. Grab a blanket and make a picnic out of it! Yes open alcohol is allowed in Millenium park !

On select weekday evenings, rock, pop, and indie performers take the stage as part of the Downtown Sound and Loops and Variations programs.
Unfortunately I couldn't see any event , but you should look for the next events , amazing place!

New Music Mondays has some of the best independent bands perform during the summer. If the band is popular, make sure to come early.

I prefer the one in bilbao, Spain (Guggenheim). However, do not miss it, it is gorgeous.
The classical summer concerts are always packed but the jazz concerts every Thursday in July and August are just as good with much smaller crowds.
Can't see anything on stage from way back in the grass but the skyline makes up for it.

The trellis supports the sound system , which spans the 4,000 fixed seats and the Great Lawn, which accommodates an additional 7,000 people.
