Seacliff’s famous fishing pier extends out to a unique concrete tanker, the SS Palo Alto. It was built during World War I, when wartime steel shortages created a demand for alternate shipbuilding materials.

Go to the Aptos cement boat, built of cement for WWii but never used in battle. It was a night club for awhile but now the domain of sea creatures . The Visitors Center at Seacliff has the history.
Stood on the same spot with my mom almost 50 years ago she said we can't get any farther away from Pennsylvania in this "we must live here"
It blows my poor little mind that it is REALLY cement . I need to get another speaking engagement down near there, so I can see this. (Only way I get vacations.. lol)
It’s the S.S. Palo Alto. Read about it here: <aclass="entity url"rel="nofollow" href="https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Palo_Alto"target="_blank" data-sig="BOWp1nOB+HjLFo9zssV0k9FxnFg=" onmousedown="fourSq.ui.OutgoingLink.mousedown($(this), event)" data-source="tip-text">https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SS_Palo_Alto</a>
It was an oil tanker. Never used, and brought here by an investor.
