In 1627 a patent was solicited from England and it was obtained by a group led by John Endicott who arrived in Naumkeag in 1628. Conant ended up stepping down as governor and moved to Beverly.
Originally settled in Plymouth but did not like their strict rules. He led a group of fisherman to Naumkeag, now Salem, in 1626 to create a fishing and salting community and he served as governor.

Went on a Saturday night in October. It was crowded and was really cool. Worth the wait and the price of admission. The tour guide was a really nice lady that was really knowledgeable - James C
