Hāpuna Beach State Recreation Area Kamuela , HI 96743 United States
Consistently voted one of the top beaches in the U.S., Hapuna is the largest white sand beach on the island , with showers , picnic pavilions and turquoise water, making it well worth the parking fee.
Postcard perfect Sandy bottom beach , not common on the big island . Don't expect to see much for snorkeling , but we did have a sea turtle swim through our legs! Get here early as it's a popular spot!
Surprisingly good snorkeling around the rocks in the middle-left of the beach , saw many large reef fish , Sea urchins , and even an eel . Water depth gets down to 12 feet or so at the far side.
White sand , clear and teal watered beach , with water so soft and comfortable you'll spend more time in than out. Check out the cave behind the southern lava rock face. You can wade to it in the water.
Gorgeous white sanded beach . Nice waves for boogie boarders and body surfers. Bring a lot of sunscreen and an umbrella - no shade on the beach . There are also picnic areas above the beach .
One of the best beaches I’ve been to. Sand was super soft, wave strength was perfect, and you can snorkel near the rocks to see fishes and turtles !
Massive white sand beach with the perfect waves for body boarding. Tons of parking too.
This is a gorgeous, huge, beautiful white-sand beach ! Visitors pay $5 (good all day), but it's worth it!
There's a cool cove at N end of beach : walk N toward the hotel , then W along the trail at hotel lawn edge. Look down. There it is! Swim N just outside the cove for relatively neat & easy snorkeling .
Beautiful soft sand and a great place to ride the waves! Lovely place to view the horizon!!!
Good sand beaches , but no real shade. Spencer beach is better and more comfortable . Body surfing and rip tides are the only two reasons to go to this beach .
If you can catch the sunset here, do it. Its also a great place for snorkeling on a white sandy beach .
Pretty white sand beach with shaded picnic table areas, food, and rentals a bit higher up. Saw some sea turtles !
Great beach for swimming and the sand is soft like powder. Finding shade can be a challenge though. Bring a beach umbrella or tent.
Amazing white sand beach . Lovely shallow shelving beach and clear but wavey water. Parking lot is close, costs $5. Boards can be hired.
Best beach I've ever been to. Sea turtles , boogie boarding , or just laying out make for a great afternoon. Don't forget your umbrella! There's no shade anywhere.
They do charge $5 for parking now but you can see, improvements have been made. Maybe it keeps the riff raff out. And yes, of course, THE best beach on the island !
Big white sand beach with big waves for boarding. However high incidence of spinal injuries because of high waves breaking close to shore. Food and rentals available@
Perfection. Snorkel toward the left and around the rocky point. Swim anywhere. Relax. Enjoy.
Beautiful, large beach . Sand is soft, water is crystal blue. Can’t ask for more.
My favorite beach on the island . Beautiful sand and never overly crowded .
Beautiful beach , but no shade, so bring the sunscreen and keep on applying it if you are a haole like me. Come early to claim a nice spot before the crowds arrive.
Amazing! White sand . Gorgeous water. And even though it is a popular spot, it's pretty big so it's not crowded .
Come around 4:30 pm, theres less people and the sun isn't too hot. Nice breeze too.
Amazing snorkeling near the reef we saw a turtle along with many different types of fish .
Great snorkeling near the edges of the bay along the rocks. Don't get too close though!
Biggest beach on the big island , best ???? in the AM and a must visit while here.
Non-Hawaiian residents, $5. What a deal! Plenty of parking available. Bring umbrellas!!
Classic white sand beach . Go early in the morning to avoid crowds
Beautiful sand, gorgeous colors, attentive lifeguards, plenty of parking .
Really nice beach well maintained. Big mix of locals and tourists .
Best sand beach with small lava cliff to jump into the ocean
Perhaps the best beach in the world. So good they charge for parking . $5
$5 for parking ?! Totally worth it.
By far the best beach on Hawaii! Bring a boogie board , the waves are amazing! No shade so bring your own if you need it.
Gorgeous white sand beach ! Great for boogie boarding .
Guaranteed chickens , or your money back.
Great for boogie boarding and surfing .
Snorkeling on the north end was easier with lighter waves. Just skim further up the shoreline.
There is a handicap access road on the left of the entrance. Very helpful for dropping off handicapable people who forgot their handicap placards.
Wasn't quite white sand , more light brown. Sand was soft. Make sure to come when sun is out, overcast makes it look darker
Beautiful water....,,all shades if blue!
The perfect beach for fun in the sun and surf - went on a Thursday afternoon and had plenty of room to relax
Best boogie boarding on the island . Sand is amazing!
Beautiful ocean, crashing waves, soft white sand .
Great boogie boarding . No shade anywhere, so use sun block!
Great for families. Pavilions, snack bar , and life guards .
Park upper lot always. Side trail takes you right to restrooms and Beach . Stick to the rocks at left if any wind.
Sand is soft as salt.
For shade, come early and claim a spot by the rocks and trees .
Beautiful beach and the beach bar is PERFECT for happy hours - Catherine Maisonneuve
Must see - few miles north of Waikoloa ... a real nice sandy beach with some basic snorkeling. Lots of shade for us mainlanders. Recently improved with rinse off showers. Road is narrow and good. - Dean Suhr
Picnic tables and grills right on the beach! Sand and shade plus it's in a more protected area so the waves don't crash as hard as other local beaches. - Melinda McCullough
Perfect location for sunsets. Great service. Prices not so bad. Definitely recommend. - Robert LePage
