We love member Monday's. the kids enjoy the train rides; however, I would like to see the train expanded to go farther and possibly add a stop on the other side. That's be neat.

The zoo camps for the kids to do during the day are great because they spend a lot of time teaching your kid a lot about the different animals there and about the different features the animals have.
zoo brew on wednesday nights for grownups, but a great visit all the time! say hi to barnaby, the giant aldabra tortoise.
Great zoo and getting better! May not be as big as Henry Doorly in Omaha, but you can enjoy several hours there. Also very kid friendly .
They do zoo camps for the kids my niece's age so the children can learn more about the animals and their wild life.
Kids get scared feeding the goats and llamas at the petting zoo , so look to the ground for free food to feed them.
If you have young kids, I highly recommend buying a yearly pass for the Zoo , the Science Center and Living History Farms . Excellent value.
Make sure you check it all of the animal shows at their corresponding times!
It's been decades since I've been here but I'll be damned if I don't fit in that prairie dog tunnel and experience that awesomeness again!
Make time for the sea lions and seals! Mondays have free train rides for members!
Kids loved it, and it's rather inexpensive . We had a tough time finding a parking spot , though.
The new rhino girl was fun to watch. The male and female haven't been introduced yet so only got to meet the girl.

Great caves and hide holes for the kids to see the exhibits .
Go late, the tigers and lions will be active because it's almost feeding time.
They are really giving the zoo a total makeover. It is nice but not quite comparable to bigger city zoos .

Besides Toys-R-Us, this is the only other place to spot a giraffe in Des Moines.
Changing table is in the bathrooms by the gift shop . None in the bathroom by the goats .
