The current foursquare rating (7.1) does not accurately describe how good this place is. Sit at the corner seat at the bar and get omakase . Call ahead to check if uni will be available.
Amazing authentic omakase at a really great price. Also had the special that day (seasoned baby squid ) which was the best squid I have ever had.
Best sushi ive had in all of Brooklyn. Get the sushi and sashimi omakase and some cold sake . This place literally made me feel like an idiot for eating at normal sushi restaurants . Come on payday.
As good as the sushi and sashimi are here, don't forget the cooked items. Especially good are the mushrooms and miso black cod , and the gyoza , miso soup and agedashi tofu are all better than the norm.
If you're looking for an authentic Japanese place, you've just found it! Food and service are amazing! Clean , simple and with great attention to every little detail, what makes them really stand out!
If you are in Park Slope and like sushi , come here and get the omakase . It is the best sushi I’ve had in NYC and as good as the best I’ve had in Tokyo.
via PureWow: "Slightly more affordable in at the Park Slope location compared to the new West Village spot, where the sushi omakase is $52 (vs $60), and the sashimi+sushi omakase is $72 (vs $87)"
$45 for the Omakase - 9 piece sushi + hand roll . Come here soon before you can't get a reservation !!
good usuzukuri, fantastic miso cod , loved the texture and flavor of their tuna and salmon rolls
Expensive dinner , but really an awesome 5-course omasake meal with amazing fresh fish for sushi and sashimi plates!! Add an app or extra side for more variety, but no need since omasake is enough food
To be succinct: Katsuei serves the best sushi in Brooklyn. For pretty reasonable prices. Don’t come here for any reason other than the omakase ($45 for sushi , or $65 for sushi and omakase )
didn't love the super thinly sliced salmon sashimi by everything else was fab. get pieces (sushi ) you like or omakase . standouts: spicy scallop hand roll , uni, fried oyster roll, fluke, snapper
An affordable omakase with tons of fun tastes sprinkled in. Very unorganized when it comes to reservations , but good experience once you're in your seat.
Uncommonly good and authentic sushi + sashimi omakase . Better than places I've been to in Japan. The mushrooms make for a savory appetizer .
The Omakase was so worth it. Sit at the bar . The chefs and the servers are very nice and knowledgeable about the fish . Great uni!
The sushi as well as the tempura is excellent. Fatty tuna is great cut too
The sushi omakase is a good value . Service is friendly . I highly recommend it.
It was off to a great start...appetizers were well done. But then they took 30 minutes to get our sushi order out, despite the fact that the couple next to us got 3 courses during our wait. Uncool.
Proper 10 piece omakase for $47. Insane value and legitimately better than most high end places I've been in the city .
Best omakase I've had in the city (only $65 for sushi and sashimi )! Fatty tuna and uni were magical.
The sushi omakase is a good value . Service was friendly . Highly recommended!
Great tasting menus or a la carte. I would recommend doing the tasting menu and an appetizer .
Omakase Sushi is nice, not just regular sushi . 9 pieces plus a hand roll which is like 2 pieces
Best sushi in the slope by far. Sit at the bar and order omakase . Then order extra uni.
Omakase is fantastic
This place is outstanding!!! In a few weeks it will be busy as he'll. we went with the sushi and sashimi menu.
NYT *** (2014): "Sashimi and sushi omakase ; oshitashi; agedashi tofu ; anago with sea salt ; fried eel bone."
Good value omakase $67+. Reserve a bar seat for the full experience.
Such a great spot! Solid service and the omakase was ????????????
Sushi omakase is amazing and a great value for the quality and execution
The sushi & sashimi omakase was SO stellar. Great surprise in a neighborhood of mediocre Japanese restaurants .
The omakase was amazing and great value (9 pieces and a hand roll for $45).
Had a great first omakase experience here :) service was also wonderful
With Geido on Flatbush Ave the 2nd best Japanese in Park Slope! Try the omakase ! A Bargain at 45$!
Sushi omakase . The Monkfish liver pate is amazing!
Sushi is good, service is weird. Wanted rice on outside as part of roll that came with sushi deluxe, (couldn’t accommodate). Outside of that I’ve eaten there a few times, staff is cold.
The sushi and sashimi omakase is a great deal, if a bit fast paced.
The omakase is quite good.
tasting menu is the way to go. trust the chef !
The fish quality is the best in park slope and the staff are super friendly
Service was helpful and pleasant. Most of the sushi was excellent , esp the octopus tonight.
Their Omakase is affordable in comparison to other places. Delicious.
Amazing sushi . Get the chefs tasting. They know what they're doing
Get the omakase and sit at the bar . Ask for the shrimp with the deep fried head.
Delicious sushi and a lovely space to dine in
best omakase in BK
Amazing omakase menu. Sit at the sushi bar
The omakase was seriously tight tonight. Legit
Everything! Trust in the skill of the sushi chef and order the Omakase .
Amazing miso cod and sushi rolls ... but the food takes forever, speed it up!
