Built in 13 BC and named after Emperor Augustus' nephew, Marcus Marcello. An open air theatre that originally held up to 20,000 onlooker. Built primarily of Tuff, a type of rock made of volcanic ash.
Classical music concerts here all Sumer long at 8:30pm, with the ruins as a backdrop. No need to book in advance.
Simply beautiful up close. Connects to the portico/ancient fish market/church. The restoration story is well detailed.
A beautiful little coliseum right next to the Ghetto neighborhood . In the summer apparently it's used for concerts still. We were not able to get in for a visit.
Amazingly this 13bc structure once held 20k people. Today you can walk in amongst the ruins and admire their glory
Marcellus' theater was the largest and most imposing theater of ancient Rome.
Consider it the small Colosseo - well kind of. It's not that big, not that impressive. Bit you can really touch it and get close to it. Way less people there.
It's well-located with easy access to several commuter and tourist buses . On Wednesday and Sunday the Marriott bus stops here.
built in the closing years of the Roman Republic. At the theatre , locals and visitors alike were able to watch performances of drama and song. Read more
