Makalawena Beach

Huge area with very few people. Bring shoes for the hike . Previous tipper said it was paved, but it's actually a path of fist-sized, sharp-as-glass lava rocks.

This is one of best beaches I have ever been to. Perfect for swimming , crystal clear water, and white sand . The hike in was hot so make sure you bring lots of water. There are also wild goats !

Gorgeous beach ! Best we went to in Kona. When you get to the two red house structures keep going you still have about a 20 min walk over a lava "path" but it is totally worth it!

Congrats. You completed the trek through Mordor, and didn’t let any of the 5 decoy beaches distract you. Enjoy!!

Hike here is not the most pleasant one, but rewarding. You might end up having the whole beach for yourself

A great sunbathing beach but not too good for swimming . High waves and sharp rocks close to the shore.

Bring just enough to hang out for the whole day. And let the beer rest a little after the drive down. Don't forget snacks .

The walk in from the parking lot is easy - there is a paved path and you don't have to walk over the lava bed

The road to get here from Hiway 11 is for advanced4 wheelers only!

There are port a potties outside of the beach area if ya need them. No peeing in the ocean!

Long hot hike .

Disregard what people are saying about four wheelers . You can get down this road in pretty much any car, though it might violate your rental contract.
