Opened in 1941, this museum , founded by financier Andrew Mellon, has some 116,000 works of Western art dating from the Middle Ages to the modern era.
One of my favorite museums and there is no admission fee. This is truly one of our country 's treasures. Wear comfy shoes and allow yourself plenty of time. The free app adds so much. Bring headphones.
It's a large museum with a large international variety of art . Exquisite portraits of American Presidents and a large collection of Rembrandt's make this a must see for anyone trolling around the mall
Start your tour on the second floor! I wish we had! There are so much more to see and we didn't have time to see it all....The first floor has nice art/furniture but the second floor is awesome!!

If you head over the street to the recently opened East Wing and head to the top of tower 1, you will find the Rothko room. Stunning.
Of all the exhibits , don't leave without checking out the East Building, which houses the modern collection. Great art around every corner. And the architecture itself is worth multiple Instagrams.

Take the tunnel between the East and West buildings - best gift shop ever below the West building, and a super fun installation along the walkway on the East side! Also a cafe , rest area , etc.
Amazing museum ! The permanent collection is full of masterpieces, and the admission is free. Definitely worth a visit.

Like most other DC museums , free entrance makes up for the ridiculous prices at the cafés . However, do pay a visit to the café here if only to take the underground passageway to the East Building.
This place has the historical and pretty old art but definitely in top 3 places to visit in DC

The special exhibits are cool but it’s the sheer quantity of consistent quality that will make your jaw drop. Wonderful.

Spend some time with as many Edouard Vuillard paintings as possible. They're hidden gems scattered throughout the West building.

Impressionism and modernism on the top floor is the best. Also, the largest collection of Rodin sculptures .
Every floor is worth visiting, but the second floor Presidential Portrait Gallery is where you should spend your time.

The Dying Gaul as well as the Art of Byzantium exhibits are great. Being able to compare Italian and French art alone is totally worth the visit. Plus there are cool ties for sale in their store. - Mike C
