Diamond Head Trail is a hiking trail Diamond Head - Kapahulu - St. Louis Honolulu located in United States.
Honolulu , HI 96816 United States
The hardest parts of the climb are the crowds and stairs but it's worth it. Bring proper shoes . Your feet will thank you. And remember it's more about the journey. The destination is the reward.
Go extra early if you want to avoid the crowd and the heat. 7am is a great time to start. Anytime after 7:45, you'll have to either wait for a parking spot or park outside.
It’s a must-do IMO. There are a lot of stairs and it’s a good workout, but it was an hour round-trip with my 4 and 6 year-old. They loved it and want to go back!
mostly cut rock paths and steps with a little concrete sidewalk mixed in. not a difficult hike but it is a bit of a workout. reward yourself with a foot massage later.
We did the hike on a Monday morning. We picked up Leonard’s malasadas and drove to the Diamond Head by 7:30. Completed the hike in less than 1 hour including pics and stops.
Depending on the heat, most people hike the Diamond Head crater first thing in the morning. A rewarding breeze and sweeping island views from Koko Head to Wai’anae await at the summit. Read more
The most exhausting part is the last 10 minutes. Before the steps to the small tunnel begin, I would recommend to take a break for 5 minutes and drink something.
Suggest you wear a baseball hat that can be worn firmly on the head. The winds up top could blow anything light away. Take brief breaks for photos and stay to the right going up.
Family friendly trail . Paved and has stairs . May be considered a workout for people who don’t do regular physical activity but it’s easiest hike we did in Hawaii.
Instead of taking the 90+ stairs up, take the round-way on the right (officially for way back only). Much easier and much more scenic .
Must do hike with a killer view of Honolulu. Stairs are a killer if you're not used to climbing stairs !
Iconic trail . Relatively easy hike , though last few meters with stairs and incline can be a bitch. Gorgeous views , gets quite crowded . $1 entry fee, bus #23
Absolutely worth doing if you're in Honolulu. It's not a difficult hike and the view is incredible.
Bring plenty of water and take your time! It’s harder going down than up, your feet/toes push into your shoes
Absolutely fantastic. You must be prepared with water, good footwear and a can do attitude. Meet you at the top.
Don't miss this. It's the prettiest view of the island you can get with your own two legs.
Quick and easy...nice way to take in the views and to get a unique perspective of this gorgeous island .
If you do any hiking then ignore the stuff they say about this being strenuous, this is super easy. The only hard part is dealing with the crowd, many of whom are clueless how to act off pavement.
Such a great hike ; be ready for some stairs if you want to make it to the very top!
Go late, everyone goes early and we strolled on in and found plenty of parking at noon
This was a great hike ! Use alternate route if you don't want to do the last set of steep steps and crawl through the small opening at end.
It closes at 6pm but if you drove your own car, there are quite a few look out points that you can take pics of
This hike was really awesome. Definitely recommend hiking shoes or at least sneakers
Wear light clothing (in weight & color), carry water, wear a hat, use sunscreen , and DEFINITELY use the facilities before you climb !!!!
You're gonna climb what feels like a million stairs (216) but the views of Waikiki will be worth it!
Take the judgement stairs . Youll know em when you see em.
Short hike , great view . Go early to beat the crowds.
Better to go early. It’s cooler, temperature wise, in the morning.
Hike well in 15 mins you are at the top and the view is amazing:)
This hike is not handicap accessible or stroller friendly
The last hike is 4:30 pm but they open at 6am. This kind of sucked for me because there was plenty of sunlight out. It's okay. There's always tomorrow
Dont miss the pill box
Easy hike up- I even made it my flip flops, but go for the sneakers :)
Entrance fee is 1 USD. They do not accept penny coins.
Shoes a must, water, sunblock, camera and be prepared to walk steep inclines and steps.
Bring plenty of water or gatorade when doing this hike . Wear good shoes and dont forget your cell phone and camera
Trail to the summit is nice. Great Overlook.
Easy Trail . Totally worth to visit.
Amazing view ????
Last hike is at 4:30. Be sure to get here before then!!
Beautiful and busy
You can actually get away with doing this hike while wearing flip-flops (sandles).
Challenging hike , but great view from the top!
Worth the hike up, keep going! only 200 stairs at the top ;)
Be prepared. Officially the hike is only 0.8 miles long one-way, but it seems more like 1.8 miles.
Hike all the way up to the top
Not too exhausting hike , great views over Waikiki
You can do it!!!
So worth the climb !!'
Early morning hike
Easy/moderate hike, great views at the summit. Lookout gets crowded, get here early to beat the sun and the crowd - Sheba Kunhimohammed
Awesome views of the top after not easy hike. Lots of stairs and switchbacks. Bring lots of water if it's hot. - Biz Traveldude
Former UH Women's Volleyball player Kirsten Sibley, recommends this hike as 10/10. Keeping me fit as an on-air sports analyst for Spectrum Sports. - Kirsten Sibley
Not a long hike. Park in the neighborhoods just before you get to the restaurant and trail areas to save $5. Hike can be tricky / slippery at times, so be careful. - Brian
We tried all 8 flavors of the malasadas. Our favorite is the Li-hing sugar. U should try it! - Danica Cheung
