Victoria Sq (New St) Birmingham West Midlands United Kingdom
The River , locally known as the Floozie in the Jacuzzi , was constructed by Dhruva Mistry in 1992 and, along with a redeveloped Victoria Sq, was officially unveiled by Diana, Princess of Wales in 1994
The correct name of this set of statues & fountains by Dhruva Mistry is 'River , Youth, Guardians and Object (Variations )' which is shortened to The River . Locals call it The Floozie in the Jacuzzi .
Mistry’s ensemble, including “The River ” aka “The Floozie...” was beautiful as a water feature, sadly lost to plumbing. The inscription from TS Eliot’s poem “Burnt Norton” is apt; Why? Read the poem.
I always select the same spherical bollard to rest by. Mine is opposite the word 'HEART' carved into the marble surround to Mistry's 'The River ' - aka 'The Floozie' ...
Lovely view of the square
