Belle Isle

Belle Isle is one of RVA's favorite places to enjoy the river and outdoor fitness. First explored in 1607 and later used as a prison to 30,000 Union POW's, the island has a long history.

Belles Island is one of my favorite spots in RVA! Wonderful park next to the James filled with walkers, bikers, swimmers, dogs! There's a pump track and trails to mountain bike on!

The views are incredible if you hike or mountain bike to the high ground. The rocks on the river are really cool. Great place to relax , hike , walk a dog, mountain bike , sunbathe , or just enjoy nature

Great view of Richmond from the island . Lots of bike trails to ride with shady, just be careful of runners and pedestrians on tracks .

Go @ peak season end Oct- jump rocks- follow arrows- compass always points to Terrapin- A Trail bottom of footbridge to east of island where river is lazy- discover secluded beach w skyline over you

Park near the civil war museum and walk over the span bridge . Awesome hiking !

Experiencing the James River is central to the Richmond experience and taking a walk or bike on Belle Isle is one of the best ways to see it close up.

Make sure you explore all the little trails . Also a great place to run.

Peaceful spot to watch the sun set

Stressful thoughts on your mind? Come park at the top of the hill play some good music an stare at the river or others running by

Relax, ride bikes , fish and catch a sunset . Good times can be had by all in this little slice of heaven!

This place is perfect to chill and relax plus da kids will have a blast too!!!

Great place to get away that's actually very close to a city .

Make sure to stop here when you are on the Buttermilk trail ! Lots of windy, hilly trails with some cool drops!

Gr8 place for a power walk or run! :) so nice to have to do this in between volleyball tournament!

If you go to the far side (southside) of the island , you'll find a creepy old water processing plant.

Drunks, not much room to relax, foul language around families...I like Belle Isle in off-season by myself but I'm not planning on hiking the kids over the bridge again on a Saturday.

Try to NOT do stupid things out on the rocks, it is only funny for those watching...
