Old decadent hotel . It might have been a great hotel back in the 40's... Area is full of junkies but it's harmless as far as we saw. Great location in the town . Can get anywhere in 15 min. Good price!
The hood is a little suspect but the trolley, subway and bus lines stop right in front. They have a Farmer's Market across the street on Wed. Fri. and Sat. 7-noon...
People who are saying that the rooms are small must have never visited any hotel in Europe. For the price they offer it is a really good quality compared to a lot of places in SF.
historic hotel . Great central location on market with free private parking . 120 for a room.
Very good location; its kind of old but very clean . We had no problems.
They must've decided to make this hotel as scary as possible. They put mirrors at the end of hallways . Actually a good deal though. Would stay again.
For your peace of mind, avoid Market st. side rooms. Lots of noise from trolley, emergency vehicle, cleaning car and night road work. Closing the window doesn't help much.
Props for featuring Starbucks in the lobby level and a nice spot for a hotel in the Civic Center area
The area is definitely a bit sketchy but the hotel lobby and rooms are beautiful. 12 ft ceilings. Dark wood panelling . It's like being in a '30s Hollywood movie .
Bed bugs were found here more than 20 cases. See http://www.bedbugregistry.com/hotel/CA/San-Francisco/Hotel-Whitcomb for the detail.
$35 a night for parking that first of all, they don't guarantee, second they make you park your own car, and third of all takes 35 mins to get your car, never comíng back here again
One of the best hotel sleeps I've had. Comfy bed ! Try filling in your "if there was one thing we could do...", great customer service!
The hotel Whitcomb will do in a pinch but it's expensive for how dingy the exterior is. Bar always has stale beer on tap .
Clean and affordable . Starbucks in hotel . Great breakfast place. The surrounding area can be a bit weird at night but it's fine if you're not by yourself!
Wifi can be iffey. Rooms are old, so you won't find power outlets in convenient places, such as near the bed.
Dark. Worn. Closet sized gym . Prison toilet . Coffee in lobby is nasty. Surrounding streets full of junkies. This might have been a stunning hotel 10,000 years ago, but not today.
Hotel is a blast from the past. Lots of historical value. I wish it was on a better block....
Love historical buildings , even though hot water is slow. Starbucks inhouse. Lots of homeless people in the area. Slowest elevators on the friggin' planet though!
Civic Center station, B1 exit and you'll be in front of the hotel . Nice diner just across the street.
Room is on the small side, but big comfortable bed . Staff is absolutely great and friendly .
Dark hallways and There are no lights in the room just the bed lamp and another lamp by the desk.
Special rate of $129 for a small double room only available to book online
Faded glory but a great value . Slowest front desk, elevators , and valets in the business. Lots of planning required if you are in any sort of hurry. But a solid value.
The singing doorman in the top hat is super nice as are all the staff - the bathroom is minuscule though and the lighting is horrible for makeup
Honestly straight out of The Shining. Always a line at registration. Rooms are tiny, beds are collapsing on themselves, & the bathrooms are minuscule. For the price it is a place to briefly rest.
Tiny but comfortable rooms . Wish the bathrooms were bigger!!
Pro: Beautiful hotel . Check out the historical info available in the rooms. Con: Staff is not really interested in helping. Wifi is a joke.
Historic hotel , small and dark rooms, but beds are really comfy !
Central to everything and right next to the trolley!
Love the historic architecture and how it has been modernize
Enjoy live music while indulging in sumptuous food at the piano bar The Tavern.
Hopefully the fire alarm will go off in the middle of the night and you'll get to descend a rickety old external fire escape in darkness.
Ride the elevator to the basement to check out the old jail! Please be respectful that this is a staff area.
Don't jump in the elevator . It will stop and you will be stuck.
Ride the elevator to the basement to see the old jail, but please be respectful of the staff and staff areas down there.
Historic hotel . Older rooms...won't be back.
Seems to take part in Quentin's Tarantino "Four rooms", only that it's in San Francisco instead of LA. Still have not met Tim Roth, maybe he's away for summer holidays...
Closet door totally opened on its own! I guess the ghost finally came out of the closet!
Stayed in a Superior King, larger room than the standard, comfy bedding and recently renovated. Worth it.
Nice hotel but lots of junkies on the steet all day long !!!
Room is nice, bed is comfy , hotel looks cool if you're into 1930's type of things, i like it. However, the people at reception are rude, terrible slow and inconsiderate. No. / This is why AirBnb wins!
Room is ok, bed and pillows very comfortable . Old feel to hotel but all cool. No problem stopping here.
Remember to bring ear plugs. Rooms are really noisy
Hotel is old and not in a great location. Rooms are small and the power outlets are useless. I suggest looking around.
This Place is So Cool!!! Great Place at a Great Price!!! Went there for our honeymoon.
Don't get exterminated by the Dalek in the lobby.
Look for the holding cells in the basement . Just be mindful of the staff .
Beautiful hotel , but a lot of junkies around the area. Be careful walking at night.
Bring your own packaging tape - they don't offer shipping & can be very stingy with the scissors
I had trouble sleeping cause of all the noise, my door looked like it had previously been forced & there was no pressure in the shower . It's an attractive building but I wouldn't stay here again.
Historic hotel and it knows it. I went for the history and I'll be back. Staff = excellent. Weekends = great deals - Jim
Great hotel spending time and money renovating rooms. The staff are super helpful. Would highly recommend. - Spencer Hudson
I love the lobby bar. Huge and opulent plus great range of good wines - Tim
If you are in a rush to grab a bit to eat before a show at the Orpheum Theater, I highly recommend this restaurant. The Korean tacos and breakfast options are tops! They poached my eggs to perfection - Ericha Fabay
Upper balcony seating is great for us tall guys. The seats are staggered nicely. Wicked is great so far! - Rylan Leese
