BAPE® is a Japanese brand founded by Tomoaki “Nigo” Nagao in 1993. When Nigo decided to start his own brand, he named it after the 1968 film, Planet of the Apes. The name “A Bathing Ape” is short for a Japanese saying “bathing in lukewarm water”.
