I love the beauty and expansiveness of this park . It saddens me to see garbage on the ground , so I try to pick up a few pieces here and there each time I visit. I'd love to see others do the same!
Just across the river is this beautiful oasis that is never overrun with people! Enjoy running (there also a track ), biking , tennis , a play or a relaxing picnic . They also have free WiFi !

Bring beers , but keep it in Solo cups. Don't be an obvious asshole and you'll never get a summons. Find the tall guy with the 1980's boombox (me) and have a drink. Enjoy the summer. Peace !
This park has everything. Wifi , plenty of benches , historical significance, waterfront views , a pool, playgrounds , picnic space, skatepark, tennis courts , and a track .
I use to live about 6-7 blocks away from hear for about 3 years. I went swimming there always and sat in the park watching what was going on in there when I was just hanging out sitting in the grass.

When you face yourself towards the water, don’t sit on the right most part of park , especially on the incline, you get gust of shit smell from the sanitation plant every now and then.

56 acres along East River were acquired to create William Jay Gaynor Park (after the city 's mayor from 1909 to 1913). However it was quickly renamed Astoria Park in December 1913.
One of the most romantic spots to bring anyone - after dark sitting next to the River listening to the waves with the view of the NYC skyline is priceless :)
