Beautiful with a fascinating history . This site played a pivotal role America establishing itself as a free and independent nation. John Rutledge was sworn in as the first President of SC here.
Very interesting. Our tour guide Stephan was terrific - he shared a lot of fascinating history within a brief 30 minute tour . Don't miss the exhibits on the top and main floors.
Checkout the entire building. Very cool! Start with the dungeon tour then head up to the 2nd floor. So much history to take in and read. Ask the guy upstairs if you can hold his fun!
Out of the three tour guides there, they were either very sweet, very energetic or both. Tour of the dungeons doesn't take long and is very interesting and fun.
The old clock from the tower was taken down and now resides on the first floor. Made by E Howard & Co, the famous Boston clock-makers.
Be sure to get some Charleston Ice next door if you go during the summer. Try lemon and mango mixed together for a delicious way to cool down!

"Fin" gives an awesome and passionate tour ....he said he was a retired history teacher . I'd wait around for him off possible!
Nice history, but not utilizing space as best they can.
Great place to brush up on American History or see a Pre-Revolutionary Dungeon (especially at night on the Ghost & Dungeon Tour !)
The tour is wonderful! Gives an "fun" insight into the history of South Carolina. Great tour for children!
So much history . Well worth the stop.
Ghost tours all stop here. They say the place is haunted by some of the poor souls who died in the dungeon during the Revolutionary War.
Don't forget to sign the Declaration of Independence!
Stay for the tour downstairs
History day in the Charleston heat.
Beware of Benjamin! He has an unhealthy hatred of pirates...
We liked Fort Sumter, it was very educational. Try going the last boat of the day. They lower the American flag and the commentary is quite interesting. We also loved the boat ride back and forth. - Nancy Margolis
The guided tour was great! Highly recommend. Especially if you’re a white person living in America. - Sam Bantner
So pretty. It's a welcome to Charleston sort of thing. Newbies have to go by here and the battery. Great place for pictures. - Jade Magpantay
Don't miss this street on your visit to Charleston. It's one of the most famous (and colorful) spots. The homes are beautiful and whimsical. The purple is my favorite. - Paige C
Considering the history, i think this museum could have been more engaging. That said, entry is relatively cheap so worth it to get a quick overview of the role Charleston played during slavery. - Corley Stone
