Small, but worth the visit. Good information about the "economics" and "game theory" of the slave trade and the different stakeholders involved. Has student discounts ($5).

Lots of interesting info but light on the artifacts . Best to talk with descendants of those sold here for a personal and real story.

I enjoyed this museum ...dealt very well with the complex history of the selling of enslaved African Americans. Highly recommended!

C-SPAN

About 40% of all enslaved Africans coming into the United States in the 18th century came in through the Port of Charleston. Check out this C-SPAN video for more info. Read more

Considering the history, i think this museum could have been more engaging. That said, entry is relatively cheap so worth it to get a quick overview of the role Charleston played during slavery.

BET

Used to hold slave auctions in the early 1800's. In honor of Black History, check out these noteworthy examples of African-Americans' accomplishments: http://bet.us/BHM"

The Grio

This museum is the only known former slave auction gallery still in existence. It tells the story of Charleston's role in the inter-state slave trade . It focuses on the history of the specific site.

Important piece of Charleston History.

Mostly reading, and a little pricey considering we did the entire thing in just under 25 minutes. But the staff was friendly and we did learn quite a bit.

Mary Catherine James

This is where slaves were sold after being quarantined for months on Sullivan's Island .

Meg Torrez

Excellent museum . Most of the information you have to read from their displays and so it is not ideal for young children.

John Mitton

Presented comprehensive historical overview .

Danton J. A. Cardoso

An accurate description of how the US was built. Disappointing how human beings are treated as property.

Lisa Hinchliffe

Read beyond the objectively presented info.
