Try Roti John as an option. French loaf halves, fried w topping of minced mutton , sliced onions & egg . Literally means "John's bread ", John being a common salutation for Caucasians. Source: Infopedia

U can hardly find freshly shredded coconut in Sg wet markets now and in Tekka there are 3 stalls selling it. Even have fresh coconut milk . Really spoilt for choice!

Kristin M. O

The market buzzes with flowers , conversation and local food, to get your spicy thosai, meat, drinks or a prata & curry fix with skinty friends can be fun! Just minutes off the Little India train stop.

Porridge : the rice porridge fellow 4SQ users rave abt is Hup Soon #01-306. Operated by elderly folks, expect old-school goodness with every bite

History: Mkt was known as Tek Kia Kha (in Hokkien), meaning "foot of small bamboos", as bamboo once grew on banks of Rochor Canal . Adapted in2 Tekka Pasar ("pasar" Malay for "mkt"). Source: Wikipedia

Prawn noodles shootout. Prefer 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles 01-326 to Jasmine Pork Rib Prawn Noodle 01-316. Their soup base was lighter, yet more flavourful. Jasmine has more vege

Fried chicken briyani set ($7 with egg , achar, pappadums & sambhar). Classic serving from Allauddin’s Briyani #01-232. Rice was moist & packed w flavours. Salty seasoned meat paired well

Bernard Lim

Rasa Raja Bojun Sri Lankan Food: tasted the watthalapan dessert . Made of coconut , it is great! Sweet with jaggery (Sri Lankan sugar)!

Cheen The Curious

Masala dosai. Savoury tastes from Sri Tiffan Stall #01-224. Enjoyed the potato-based filling, as well as the sambhar. The freshly-made vadais (Indian 'donuts ') were warm & crispy

Cheen The Curious

Many stalls near market , along Buffalo Rd selling fresh flowers (without stems), or garlands. Min $1/bag of loose flowers (can mix types). Going rate for flowers tied to string is $1.50/ft (~30cm)

Banana leaves . Tanga Banana Leaf offers both pre-cut tray size (20-cents/pc), & these bigger ones used for prayers ($1). Stall is next to popular Chia’s Vegetable Supply 01-88

Cheen The Curious

Mee Goreng (fried noodles Indian-Muslim style). Ajimer Sharif prepares a generous plate. The red colour, from colouring, makes it look spicier! Fried egg is optional

Ting

Chia’s Vegetables Supply (#01-129) has imported vegetables not usually found in other wet markets like fresh herbs and sage . Thumbs up for the friendly service too!

Cheen The Curious

Chendol drink: Unique find. Plenty of stalls sell it for $1.20. We get ours fr Maya Mohan (w photo of ex-Prez Nathan) #01-246. They also serve other popular beverages, incl teh tarik

Cheen The Curious

Apom. Enjoyed the egg apom from Sky Lab #01-227. Presentation-wise, I should dine in rather than takeaway , so that dish maintains its bowl shape????

Cheen The Curious

Dum briyani . Aromatic rice from Yakader #01-259. Had raisins & nuts to add to flavour & texture. Chicken was decent. Served with sides of achar & vege curry

omg I'm in love with tekka market - smorgasbord of hawker delights and the wet market sells EVERYTHING. + the cheery store owners really make this a wonderful place to shop.

Prata : Zoomed in on Prata Saga Sambal Berlada (#01-258), based on 4SQ tip. Loved it! Crispy , freshly-made prata . Picked mixed curry over plain. Plus owners r a jovial lot, joking as they serve u :-D

Jerrald Ng

Eat and tour like a local from wet market shopping to eating at Hawker Center and sari boutique stalls. Crowded most of the time, best time to visit is before 11am or after 2pm.

Drew Graham

Prata is great (the one with the queue) and some good Birianis .

Bernard Lim

The Whampoa Prawn Noodle here is very good but be prepared for long Q. The Duck rice along the same roll as the prawn noodle also has a long Q too.

Mavi Doukaki

Hawker food at its best! Local experience you must try

Lavanya Vincentia Fobrogo

Mee Goreng at Samad's Tekka Dum Briyani smells and tastes so good. But spice lovers, please request for extra chilli as a normal serving may not leave you coming back for more. Their mee kuah also gd!
