The roast chicken , hands down, is the best in town . It's also a great place to eat when the weather is nice because they open their doors and windows for great outdoor seating and ambience.
The roast chicken here is some of the best I've ever had. Get it with a side of garlicky sautéed vegetables (verdure) and a glass of lambrusco
The signature JW roasted chicken and any pasta dish are always aces in the hole Read more
Rustic Italian from a Pioneering Chef - Order as many items from the menu as you can handle, get a nice bottle of Italian wine , and then sit back and relax
Amazingly comfortable in the spring when the garage doors are opened. Delicious roast chicken , the off menu bucatini carbonara , and rosemary potatoes . Good 4 people watching and casual eating ❤️
Did the chefs table with my family. An absurd amount of food.- not complaining. Everything was delicious. The chicken is as good as you'll thing. And all the pastas were delicious (gnocchi and carb)
Chef Jonathan Waxman 's prime pastas , pizzas , antipasti , and that famous roast chicken coupled with ample outdoor seating make this the perfect move for brunch , lunch , or dinner al fresco .
What goes well with perfect roast chicken ? Pasta , of course. New to the menu is a rich potato-dumpling dish with sweet delicata squash and walnut pesto , it's called the Gnocchi e Zucca ($19). Read more
Book the private dining room (by the kitchen) for a special occasion . The table seats up to 12 guests and they serve a delicious prix fixe menu family-style.
You can't go wrong here, except maybe with sea food . The chicken is out of this world, the hanger steak is awesome, the gnocchi will make your head swoon. Been here four times and never disappointed.
The roast chicken is delicious - what is typically a boring & overcooked dish is perfectly made here. The walls open up in spring & summer so you get to eat amazing food in the open air
So delicious. Buratta is amazing. Lamb shoulder parpadelle is sososo good. They are worth the price. Gnocchi is nice, calamari salad is fine, chicken is nice but still roast chicken .
Loved squid ink pasta . Healthy size portion (not 2 much). Enjoyed the 2-cheese app. Project X and goat cheese were delicious. My bf had the gnocci which wasn't too flavorful. Love outdoor seating .
Can I come back already?? Love this place... the attendance is excellent and the gnocchi stagionale is to die for. Make sure to book a reservation because the place is small.
Awesome seasonal Italian food from Jonathan Waxman – one of our favorite chefs . Try the gnocchi , the chicken (of course), any of the seafood and the budino al cioccolato.
The chicken is flavorful and a stable here, but I also love the gnocchi , zuppa soup , and the crostata.
The hostesses were very good. They predicted our wait time (no reservations for parties of two) with incredible precision. The tagliatelle with scallops are incredible. Chicken , OF COURSE. And gelato
Kale salad is perfection but only on the menu seasonally. Also you cannot go wrong with the carbonara for lunch or the JW chix potatoes for dinner . And no matter what end your meal with the budino.
If you want a spectacular whiskey drink , try the Sri Lankan Kick Starter. The pastas , the chicken , the kale salad and the calamari salad are tops on the menu but everything is tasty!
Ambience 10/10, enjoyed the most the papardelle and tiramisu , pollo del forno was great but the chunkier part was bit simple and dry, gnocchi was sweet and buttery I would pass, kale salad was good
very much enjoyed our meal. unfussy but confidently prepared. the sautéed gnocchi stagionale was pretty damn sublime, while the bucatini alla amatriciana also hit the spot. very satisfying.
A classic spot closing later this year...famous for the roasted chicken but you really can't miss. I recently enjoyed a stunning beer and pickled peach salad .
Everything was delicious, the kale salad was so fresh and flavorful. Great outside option for a sunny day, with walls that fully open so even if inside, you feel outside
Barbuto’s garage style doors are flung open as soon as temperatures rise, so every seat feels like it’s outside. Read more
Best Carbonara I’ve had in the city . A must order if you’re here for brunch (it’s only on the brunch menu ).
Great spot! Love the indoor-outdoor scene. Food is delish. All the pasta . Chicken was really moist and flavorful as well .
Steak salad was killer. The swordfish was fresh and delicious. Everything else looked great. Cool chefs table . Garage door walls open when it's nice to give the whole place an awesome open air feel
This is everything a NY restaurant is supposed to be. Fantastic food, superb service, and a great space! Loved brunch here!
Everyone orders the chicken but if there's goat on the menu, go for it. Also show up right at 5:30 to snag the corner outside table for two
Kale and calamari salads are among best I’ve ever had — pork shank is a must order, along with chicken and gnocchi ; nice, cool setting without feeling too fancy
I was a little bit hesitant to order the chicken since it can be really dry. Nothing to worry about in this place, though. The gelati is SUPERB! Fave places in NY! ????
Jonathan Waxman West Village resto comes by its popularity honestly. If you can't score on Open Table, don't sweat the wait - put your name in + take a stroll in Hudson River Park , only 1 block away
It's super busy in the evening but the food is good. It's also quite loud . If the weather is nice sit outside and you can actually have a conversation.
the chicken is what they’re famous for, and it’s tasty but ultimately still roast chicken . make sure to try the pastas , especially the gnocchi if it’s there!
If it ain't broke don't fix it, and Chef Jonathan Waxman 's Pollo Al Forno has been the main seller here since it opened. The crispiness of the skin and moistness of the meat, it doesn't disappoint.
One of NYC's best. Best roast chicken in NYC. Roasted potatoes and pastas are perfection. Kale salad is green heaven. #LOVE #magical
It's a great place to have dinner and sit outside. In the summer, it's best to reserve seating beforehand, as it gets crowded . I tried the chicken and it was a bit dry.
Chicken is definitely fantastic but this place changed my perception about gnocchi and made me think gnocchi can be extremely tasty.
Everyone talks about the chicken but the goat is also amazing. I like Stephanie Izard and her goat but this place has given her some competition.
When you order the Budino for dessert , ask for a side of breadsticks to enjoy the best pocky you've ever tasted.
Jonathan Waxman is incredible and consistent. I always order the server's recommendation and never disappointed. Try the goat stew if it's in season!
The chicken looked very good but I was more in the mood for a lighter fare so went for the monkfish instead and it was delicious! Also shared the hazelnut nougat ice cream and that was amazing!
Barbuto never misses. Great ambiance and amazing flavors. I like the kale salad , calamari salad , chicken and fluke. The hostesses are so sweet. Good for families with young children - get there early.
The chicken gets all the buzz, but so many great things on the menu ! Sit at the bar one night also - great vibe. Wish I can come more often !
Solid spot for a lunch / dinner in the summer. Lots of fresh air / sidewalk seating . Get a half order gnocchi and the roast chicken .
Definitely get the chicken - it's the signature dish at the restaurant . Also, the kale salad for a starter, and the gnocchi are amazing
The chicken gets a lot of (justifiably), but the gnocchi are absolutely incredible. Like pillows of bliss.
Served with an Italian salsa verde redolent of anchovies and capers , the half chicken is every bit as good as it ever was, perhaps better. Read more
I know everyone talks about the chicken but not going to lie, the goat was much better! Also enjoyed the cauliflower salad and meatball .
Everyone is right - duck egg spaghetti with uni is a must, farro salad delish. panna cotta and stracciatella cheese toast were yummy too! - Emily Hummel
Great place. It stays open till late night (around 11pm) and the service is great. The food is very authentic and delicious. - Magda Borges
i just love the food. rich and delicious. you will not leave hungry, that's for sure. - Martha
Amazing place to read or walking, i like the mood a little mellow, a little happy. Great views of the city. - Santiago Caicedo
