The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century neoclassical triumphal arch. It is built on the site of a former city gate that marked the start of the road from Berlin to the town of Brandenburg an der Havel.
Pariser Platz (Platz des 18. März) 10117 Berlin Germany
Viewed best if you walk from the Berliner Dom to the gate, as the long road lets you take in the gate from a distance. Come in early morning or dusk for the best views of this historic landmark .
Did you know? In 1806, Napoleon took the Quadriga - the horses and chariot statue - to Paris. Luckily, it was won back just 8 years later to go on top of the Brandenburg Gate, where it sits today.
I recommend you to come here after you have been partying whole night long, so nobody is here and you have a unique picture!
If you've made it to here be sure to go through the gate to the left for the Holocaust Memorial and Hitler's Bunker or to the right to go to the top of the parliament building.
Beauty at night! The Brandenburg gate and the nearby government buildings are a must do. While most of the attractions are open to visitors during the day, go at night for some stunning pictures
Another said that cannot be missed if you want to be able to say that you have seen Berlin. The Quadriga is simply impressive up there. Also enjoy the infamous Hotel Adlon, where MJ had that incident.
It’s one of those places you have to take a photo in front of, but other places around the city will give a more authentic feel for the history of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
One of the iconic monuments of the city : build in 1788 as a key entry point, later become the symbol of a divided Germany as the Berlin wall shut off access to the gate.
Probably more beautiful at sunset than during most of the day. Be sure to read up about it as it has an interesting story!
Been here a few times and every time I stop by its still as beautiful as the first time I saw it. A must if you're in Berlin.
Must see in Berlin, free walking tours start from here. Very close to various great memorial sites and historical landmarks
Here is the meeting spot for the daily free tour of Berlin. It's informative and a good introduction to the city . It's well worth your time. http://www.newberlintours.com/
A real beauty, and Berlin's most recognisable monument , together with the TV tower and the victory column. Worth a visit day and night.
Free sightseeing tour every day. Meetingpoint in front of Starbucks in front of Brandenburger Tor. starts every day at 9, 11, 13 and 16:00. Great tour with a great guide. Lots of info about Berlin.
Typical Berlin souvenir photo. Beautiful historical gate that separated West & East Berlin. Walk down "Unter den Linden" road all the way from "Berliner Dom" to "Brandenburg Gate".
Cool to check out for events in Berlin - football matches screened here and other festivities like the lights festival
Lots to see at the moment. A huge Christmas tree and Menorah, as well as a large carpet of flowers and dedications outside the French Embassy after the recent attacks in Paris.
The infamous landmark of berlin. Not to be missed if you,re visiting Berlin for the first time. You can get to various places from there for example Tiergarten and potsdamer platz
Great piece of architecture and the only city gate left in Berlin. Well worth a visit. Best to go at night when it's lit up!
Worth visiting this on a walking tour to learn about the History. You can book a walking tour for under €15 through Berlin walking tours .
If you must take a selfie, take one here - The face of Berlin. A great view is from the Reichstag Dome (make a free reservation for the dome online before you go & book the 1st slot in the morning).
No1 tourist attraction . Close to other must see points. Central, located on a big avenue. Picturisque, and crowded . Watch bikers when walking around, and pickpockets.
If you google "Berlin" , you will probably see Brandenburg Gate :) So don't forget to visit it. It worths to visit. It is especially a great place when you visit with a local guddy. See the link. Read more
A must see when in Berlin and a nice area to walk around it
The must see landmark . The French embassy is on the main square too and currently you can find a lot of Paris related pieces of art and candles on the square
That monument of Berlin! Tourist hotspot but it's worth to see due it's historical base.
One of the few german well-known landmarks with a big history. That's a miracle that Brandenburg Gate survived in the WWII, being one of nazi symbols.
Nice place, loved the area, historical architecture ..Should see and take a picture..its too cold if you come in feb. by the way..
By far is the most memorable part of Berlin absolute awesomeness and wonder .
Beautiful place! So much history and the embassies are all around it. New Years party was AMAZING! Love it
Is there any way not to like this place? With it‘s vast history that it witnessed it is unbeatable ;)
One of the global landmarks of mankind you should put on your bucket list.
Most iconic landmark of the city . A must visit!
Beautiful! Quadriga on top is not the original. Destroyed during the WWII. Originally the goddess was Eirene (goddess of peace ) become Victoria (goddess of victory) after the war.
Yes, it is the main touristic attraction of Berlin. But it also is the core of integration and recent German history!
One of the most important icon of Berlin. Near this gate, there is a room (silence room) which is very isolated from environmental voices, you may want to spend some minutes at there.
View from inside the GDR Capital as was [aka East Berlin / Soviet sector] looking to West Berlin beyond the gate. View taken 4th September 2020. An impressive piece of history.
One of the best spots in Berlin. Recommendation to visit it during the day and later during the night.
You can't come to Berlin without coming here and taking some pictures. You'll have to stop by this monument at least twice though. Huge difference between day & night shots of the gate.
Great work ???????? perfect photo shot while sunset , try to visit early morning of you want to photo without people
Landmark which needs to be seen if you are in Berlin. It is most wonderful at Christmas time :)
Take a picture at the back of the statue so you have a good look at the columns! The other side is much more crowded !
You are just around the corner of the second biggest park in Berlin. The Berlin Tiergarten used to be the hunting grounds of the former king Frederick the Great.
No first-timer's trip to Berlin is complete w/o a visit to the Brandenburg Gate. Tip: combine this with visit to Reichstag (w/ pre-registration) & holocaust sculpture/monument in the same vicinity.
Impressive neighborhood . Berlin hasn't disappointed me. Personal favorite: typical German Currywurst at Curry Wolf just 60 feet from to the Brandenburg Gate. ???? ????
Go there early in the morning to avoid the crowds and get a good shot
This site has witnessed Napoleon 's triumph over Prussia, political posturing by JFK and overwhelming jubilation when the Wall fell in 1989. Twenty years later U2 and Jay-Z performed here. Together.
It's a landmark you have to visit. Pass by during the night when there is less people around and you will enjoy it more
Best historical place. The whole modern germany has been in this points. War victory and more else
This is by far the most@important place to visit in Berlin. All the action is around here.
This might be connected to Museum der Stille in mitte now. An interesting concept of changing silent room designs. - John Caliban
Very interesting memorial. Different from what you usually see. Be aware that there's a museum downstairs. It is free and totally worth it. - Emiliano Viscarra
3€ entrance fee. The view from the climb to the top is worth the climb. Go near evening for a beautiful view of Berlin. - Jonathan C
