The neoclassical piazza as it is today was designed 1811-22 by Valadier in 2 semicircles, as Bernini's Colonnade, redesigning the space conceived by Alexander VII Chigi, as funnel from Porta Flaminia.
Generally a lovely plaza , until the street hawkers won't leave you alone with their flowers — that gets very annoying, very fast... especially when a simple "no, thank you" will suffice.
It means People's Square. The square is split into three streets. Via del Babuino on the left, Via di Ripetta on the right and Via del Corso is in the middle.
The Canova bar is right up there with the best. Staff are friendly and the drinks are mixed well . Few better spots on a sunny afternoon.
You can grab an ice-cream from nearby shops and sit for a while.. Or you can go up the hill and there's a nice Park with a nice view of the piazza.
One of my favourite ones.I suggest u start from here,go to nearby terazza del pincio to admire the view&then start walking via del corso (or one of the other streets, via del ripetta or via bambuini).
A big and historical area, it is good to sit at one of the caffes and watch people around.
Main gate of Ancient Rome. Travellers' first view was this square when they arrived to the city . Road to North lies ahead.
The Piazza originally marked the Northern boundary of the city of Rome. J.W. Goethe's favourite walk began here and went along the river to the once tiny village of Aqua Acetosa.
This Piazza consider to be the gate to Rome. Nice square to walk and have some Gelato ????
Your eyes will be enchanted by these two twins churches : look closely and try to spot the differences between them. A winning tip? Watch "Angels & Devils" the movie beforehand.
One of the most spectacular places in the city , especially when one finds themselves in its very center! My 3rd Rome favorite, after la Fontana di Trevi and il Pantheon.
Favourite piazza in rome. Grab an espresso at Fellinis favourite café , Canova and enjoy some great people watching .
The Flaminio Obelisk in the center of the piazza is one of thirteen obelisks in Rome. It was brought to Rome from Heliopolis in the 1st century BCE by Augustus.
Commissioned by Alexander VII Chigi to complete the teatro of the piazza, the twin churches Sta Maria dei Miracoli & Sta Maria di Montesanto started under Rainaldi jr. & finished to plans of Bernini.
The modifications wanted by Alessandro VII Chigi, including the building of the twin churches at the Porta del Popolo, were done in anticipation of the grand arrival of Cristina of Sweden in Rome Read more
this is a very big piazza crowded with people, fountains , churches and monuments be sure to visit the church of santa maria del popolo????????
At the end of piaza Venecia, there is nice square with these 2, on first sight same churches ! Enjoy in music of locals and have a fun!
For centuries, piazza del Popolo was the first glimpse most travellers got of Rome, for it lies at the end of the ancient via Flaminia and directly inside the city 's northern gate the Porta del Popolo
For centuries the sight of public executions, this elegant neoclassical piazza is a superb people-watching spot. It was originally laid out in 1538 to provide a grandiose entrance to the city .
One of my favorite spots in Rome.. Very nice area with great vibes.. Check out Via del Babuino very elegant and less crowded
Make your way from here to the Spanish steps winding through all the amazing shopping streets
It's an oval shaped square close to Piazza di Spagna and is remarkable because of the twin churches : Santa Maria di Montesanto and Santa Maria dei Miracoli , built in the Neo classical style.

The view from here all the way down the Corso to the Vittorio Emanuele Monument is pretty impressive.
Crowded but very nice, good food & drink locations nearby, subways and trams available to get here. Recommended for a visit, for sure
Take a cup of coffee or tea with one of the surround caffe & relax

“People’s Plaza ” in English .. One of the largest squares in Rome !!
Simply amazing... I love this piazza (as well ) ????
Remarkable scenery & great architecture of the twin look-aliked churches . Truly awesome indeed
Spend some time for street musicians especialy in the evenings. Zamanınızın birazını özellikle akşam saatlerinde sokak müzisyenlerine ayırın.
Great plaza to chill , not in a sunny day ????
A great place to people watch , but don’t have dinner anywhere near it. Tourist menus and big price-tags.
The artist Benvenuto Cellini in May of 1527, defending the Porta del Popolo during the sack of Rome, threw a dart that killed the head of the German troops, Charles III of Bourbon
Very talented street artists perform here. Almost better than a free concert
Feels like the center of the world & that all roads lead to it. Enchanting.
My beloved piazza in Rome. Late evening is the best time to feel the chemistry of the city .
Great to rest on the fountain stares. We got roses from a local seller and a wrist band. He was cute .
Huge Square with fountains and a sightseeing place above. Very nice view
A beautiful huge square on the way to villa Borghese. From the villa you can have a nice view from the top.
