OMG....whoever leaves this city without tasting these flavors, doesn't know what what he's missing! This is a perfect ten in all! Clam choder & shrimp & grips a must with just some white wine to go!

SFist

You eat both oysters and grilled cheese at Hog Island ! Why? Because their grilled cheese sandwich is stupid-good, featuring buttery, toasty bread , three kinds of cheesed plus house made pickles . Read more

Ranu Rajkarnikar

The oyster selection here is fantastic! Friendly staff and delicious entrees. Note, they only take American ID's and passports so if you're visiting, make sure you have one if you want to drink.

Nick Hsslgrv

Classy and delicious. Oysters are some of the finest in the city and the selection is superb. Not inexpensive though. Wait list can pile up, so grab a beverage at the bar before you step in line .

Brian Park

It's a given that the oysters here are gonna be amazing, but you absolutely have to get the Clam Chowder ! Shell-on whole littleneck clams flood the entire bowl, and they don't f*ck around

Wilson Favre-Delerue

Excellent selection of local and regional shellfish with a tight selection of wines and beers to boot. If only those lines weren't soooooooooooooo long...

Inga Intriago

The oysters here are the most freshest! So delicious! MUST try. I also saw a bowl of the seafood stew and it looked so good! Service here is outstanding ????????

Adena Brenowitz

There is always a wait but Hog island is always worth it. The clam chowder was lite but so flavorful! Barbecue oysters are delicious! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Heat lamps outside.

Rafa CG

Beautiful views and very good food, service. You will have a to wait a bit but don't be fussy, seating a the bar is already great. Go for the specials!!!

Andrew Choi

Great outdoor space to enjoy oysters and the view . Come during non-peak hours to avoid a long wait !

Stephany

Known for their wonderfully fresh oyster selection (even East Coast too) Kumamoto > Sweetwater > Well Fleet Also try the mussels . Better then I ever had in Brussels

Lucille Fisher

Hits the spot when you crave seafood , and yes the ultimate comfort food-grilled cheese ! Fresh oysters & clam chowder with the GCS is perfect to share so you have room for other goodies in the menu.????

Gorkem Unel

Oyster is magnificen & fresh. At least make it one piece. Outside has nice view of Oakland bridge . Seafood steam is killer, have pasta w/ Grilled cheese and lamb t-bone steak was delicious.

Tasting Table

In addition to ample amounts of the namesake wonderfully creamy raw bivalves (both raw and grilled), sample smoked sturgeon and white anchovies ($12) paired with farmers' market-inspired cocktails . Read more

Samara Trilling

The Hog Island white wine is delicious. The chowder is delicate and wonderful, and the pickles that come with the grilled cheese are a revelation. Beautiful views of the bay bridge .

Maria Riabtchenko

Definitely get chipotle bbq oysters , clam chowder (or any seafood stews ), fresh oysters , grilled scallops/razor clams . Don’t order the uni chowder , doesn’t taste like uni at all, just cream.

Marc Singer

The oysters are good, of course. West coast oysters seem a little sweeter than East Coast oysters , but that’s not a bad thing, just a difference. Also the clam chowder is very good.

DxbM

Great food and friendliest of staff .. went for the combination of oysters and the sea food stew .. clam chowder has bacon so I skipped ..

Scott B

Long waits are worth it for the outstanding oysters . Even the grilled cheese as a main dish was terrific for only $12; the selection of cheeses made it unique.

Jessica Galiana

Great service. Delicious food. Everything was good: Bourbon oysters , gumbo , risotto , sliders pulled pork , fries ... #great #foodie

Laura González

Muy recomendable. Ostras, salmón , sopa de pescado...todo buenísimo.# Highly recommended. Oysters , salmon , fish soup ... all very good.

Norman Ellis

Get the clam chowder ! One if not the best chowder I've ever had. You'll lick the shells and the bowl. The baked oysters are also great. Get plenty of bread to soak up the sauce left in the shells.

Lee Diaz

This place always has quite a long line . Be sure to get there early, ideally before lunch to beat the crowds. Little known fact: their oysters are raised just an hour north of this location.

Jenny Ung

Oysters were delicious, I got the sample tray and it was worth it. Clam chowder was the best I've ever had. Plus, how can you beat the view ?

Rheya Shano

Really great seafood ! Grilled oysters , fried oysters , clam chowder , and mussels were all perfectly cooked and really delicious. Really great service as well .

m

If you’re a fresh oyster lover, this is definitely a place to go when in San Fran. $1 oysters during their happy hours so get there early! Get a spot on their patio to enjoy the spectacular view .

Kate Shaw

Shuck your own oysters on the Tomales Bay . I THINK BYOB . And have grills you can bring your own meat/veggies. call ahead to see if you need to reserve ?

Lev Z

The mussels are to die for!! Very accommodating to allergies, they were able to leave out the garlic and Dijon mustard while still producing fabulous mussels .

Angela Noh

The best oyster i've ever tried in my life. So fresh, yummy, sour and sweet. Goes well with Riesling !

Giovanni D'Palma

Oysters and chowder were delicious! Tried specials and loved each one we got. Take the risk

Diana Do

Definitely get the grilled cheese and chowder . The chowder is more like a broth, but delicious! Sweetwater and Kumamoto oysters are a must ????????????

Andres Novoa

The grilled oysters are amazing! It's four per order so you can try all three of them in one go!

Jimmy Hooker

Really good oysters , and to be honest, their grilled cheese is messed up how good it is. Their grilled cheese might be more worth the trip than the oysters .

Benjy Weinberger

I love martinis but didn't enjoy the oyster martini . Stick to the other cocktails , or the excellent wines and beers .

Angie H

Much more spacious since the remodel. Sad to see Happy Hour has stopped! Grab a table outside with a bay view and drown your sorrows in oysters .

Rachel King

The line might be daunting, but it can be made bearable (and even enjoyable!) if you send someone to grab drinks from the bar and sip them while waiting for a table.

Sophia Liu

Clam to soup ratio is generous without over doing it. Made the top of the list for best clam chowders I've had.

Ms Helene

Aside from oysters , the squid salad $18, Old Bay fries $4 and seafood stew $24.

M M

The chowder is less thick than the standard, the oysters are delish so are the grits . Icy cold refreshing beers too.

@24K

The grilled cheese sandwich might be expensive but it's probably the best I've ever had. Made with multiple types of cheeses from Cowgirl Creamery.

I M

Lovely strong cocktails , lively atmosphere , tasty small plates & good oyster selection . Sit outside with a snack & people-watch.

James H

Rustic Fish Stew . Great ciappino alternative.

Glarence Zhao

Clam chowder was good and the oysters were very fresh, pork belly sliders also a nice surprise

David Muro II

Our go to lunch is a dozen mixed oysters , and a melted cheese sandwich that we dip in a bowl of clam chowder . Amazing.

Danwen

Everything we ordered was really good. Don't think you can go wrong with anything here! Definitely do not skip the oysters !

Daniel

Great, great, experience. Surprised by quality of manila clams and the creaminess of the broth in the clam chowder . Strong.

Ms Helene

Skip the current special of rock cod with brown butter sautéed veggies $29. Stick to the fresh oysters and the fish stew $24.

Tim Lee

Great meal. The wait for a party of 6 was about an hour and a half and they were out of the clam chowder , but the gumbo and oysters were fantastic.

eric bornemann

Great place to sit by the bay and throw back some oysters and beer . Go early as it gets crowded .

Meaghan H

Amazing oysters . The sweet waters are so local and fresh. The Hog Island white wine is also really delicious and reasonable
