The servers are really sweet. They let me try a number of things before I settled on the Mujaddara , which is so good! They have all sorts of authentic Middle Eastern food and a large variety of teas .
Great spot for spice shopping , dried pulses and nuts . A surprising selection of bitters . The upstairs is a great lunch spot . The mujadara salad sandwich is fantastic.
Congrats - you've died and arrived in a home cook 's heaven! Spend an hour or so here browsing the sheer amount of spices, seasonings, and condiments they have available. A dream!
The nice fellow at the counter will let you sample the options before you decide. In the end, you'll probably choose the Majuddara-- lentils , grains, lots of spices, fried onions . Impossible to resist

ARMENIA: Bastirma with labne is Armenian salt-cured beef , lingering in a flavor limbo between pastrami and beef jerky , a strained yogurt that possesses the buttery soft texture of cream cheese .
They have every single dried spice & spice blend known to man. They stock an impressive array of international rice , grains, and flours. A fun trip for any enthusiastic home cook/baker!
The Mujadara: The falafel-like Lebanese vegetarian pita is stuffed with warm seasoned lentils (instead of fried ground chickpeas ), iceberg lettuce, tomato slices , and a swath of tahini .
Outstanding spice shop . The cafe upstairs has some really good dishes as well as sandwiches . Mostly vegetarian options .

As of spring 2018 the deli/food counter is closed. There are no more sandwiches and hot foods. Kalustyan’s is purely a food shop now. They still have some prepared food in the refrigerator case.

Go straight in and walk up the stairs for the best lunch place in the area. The baba ghannouj is the best in the whole city , then again, so is everything else there. BIG yum.

It seems like I'm obsessed with Baklava lately. Here you can choose from Turkish or Greek. Plus choose from practically any food on earth. You can visit this store 100 times and still discover more.
Have some lentil soup upstairs and then bundle some kachu burfi and Turkish mini pistachio baklava downstairs for dessert .
Fabulous for ethnic foods, spices etc. Some of everything. A little pricey .
