The East Meadow, formerly known as the "dust bowl," reopened with green lawn in Sep 2011. At some locations, you may be able to connect to an open WiFi network from nearby Mt. Sinai complex.
Great section of the park , with plenty of space and fewer people.
Great grassy area for picnics , sports , people watching & laying out in the sun for sunbathing .
Just re-opened to the public; if all you remember is a vast field of dirt, c'mon over and see it now! (Those tracks are from a lawnmower; yes, that field is now a beautiful lawn.)
If you're here to play sport , be prepared to be shunted out to the muddy West 85th side of the park by the officials.
