대성문은 보현봉(普賢峯) 동북쪽으로 이어지는 산성주능선 해발 625미터 지점에 위치한 성문으로 북한산성 성문 가운데 가장 큰 문이다. 처음에는 소동문(小東門)으로 불리우는 암문이었으나 도성에서 형제봉(兄弟峯)과 보토현(輔土峴)을 경유하여 산성내 행궁(行宮)으로 이어지는 길에 위치하고 있어서 훗날 문을 더욱 성대하게 개축하고 이름도 지금의 이름 바꾸었다.

Located in the southeastern section of Bukhansanseong (Fortress), Daeseongmun (literally "Great Fortress Gate") was built in 1711 when construction of the fortress had been completed.
大城門은 普賢峯 東北쪽으로 이어지는 山城主稜線 海拔 625m 地點에 位置한 城門으로 北漢山城 城門 가운데서 가장 큰 門입니다. 처음에는 小東門으로 불리우는 暗門이었으나 都城에서 兄弟峯과 輔土峴을 經由하여 山城內 行宮으로 이어지는 길에 位置하고 있어서 훗날 城門을 더욱 盛大하게 改築하고 이름도 大城門으로 바꾸었다고 합니다.
산성 안에서 형제봉 능선을 거쳐 서울 북쪽 평창동과 정릉동으로 연결되는 관문인 대성문은 1711년 (숙종 37년)에 지어졌습니다. 1992년 소실되었던 문루(門樓)를 우진각 지붕 형태로 함께 복원하였는데, 이 때 북한산성을 완성한 조선 제19대 왕 숙종(肅宗, 1661년~1720년)의 글씨를 모아 새긴 현판을 문루에 걸었습니다.
이곳 대성문에서 대남문까지는 0.3km, 형제봉까지는 1.8km, 비봉까지는 2.5km 그리고 보국문까지는 0.6km, 대동문까지는 1.2km, 성 안쪽 북한산성계곡을 거쳐 산성탐방지원센터까지는 5.5km 거리입니다. Read more
