Most beautiful sunrise you will ever see. From Lahaina, the trip is about 1.5-2 hrs to the Summit. Arrive by no later than 6am in winter. Bring water and jacket/blanket, as temps can drop to 20-30°F.

Paige Hunter

It's 100% worth going for the sunrise . Leave early enough to arrive at least one hour before sunrise so you can see stars. Wear warm-ish clothing because it can be cold.

Super Nova

Don't be put off by the early start time. You will not regret this. Hang around after sunrise and wait for everyone to leave. Do the walk into the crater. Peaceful and unique landscape.

Tian Fang

If you look towards the South, you can actually get a glimpse of ???? Mauna Kea on the Big Island . If you’re here by the sunset , make sure you wait another hour for the stars.

Joey Carmello

Whatever you do, don’t leave right after sunrise . Everyone else leaves immediately. Instead, explore other views for pictures, and later go a bit down the trail into the crator. Wear sunscreen .

Sam S

Amazing sunrise location. Dress warm and be prepared for quite a crowd, but it's well worth it. If you can stand the cold, get your spot at least 45 minutes before sunrise .

cYeNz

Bring blankets and winter jackets as the wind makes it really cold at 10000 ft. Bring picnic food for a lovely sunset . Hide in the warming hut till the stars come out, best seen when there's no moon.

Richard Wallass

Great view . Take warm clothes if you plan to come here. And come early if you want to see the sunset cause the parking is limited.

Steph Katrina

Its about 20 degrees cooler at the summit than at sea level. Driving up in the middle of the night is a little intimidating, but so worth it to be on top of the clouds .

Sogoly Jafarieh

It's a true experience hard to fit into words????. Make sure you leave early to be there by 5:30 a.m. latest. & warm clothes highly recommended. We went in shorts & light jacket . Not comfortable ????.

Emily H

You have to book a reservation online for sunrise viewing and entrance between 3am and 7am: https://www.recreation.gov/tourParkDetail.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=147940. Amazing views

Omid Ashtari

Really one of those unique places on earth. The terrain could be straight out of a sci-fi movie . If you can go either for sun set or sun rise as it's quite an amazing sight.

Connie Chiu

Amazing for the sunrise ! Plan ahead and get here 30 minutes before. Bring blankets and dress warmly.

Lance Lacoff

Beautiful place to walk around and take in views as well as check out Silverswords. Worth a trip any time of day

Adele M.

Sunset is awesome - make sure to bring warm clothes , blankets, and chairs! Try to get there at least 45 min before sunset to get a good spot.

Juri Volama

Get up at 3:30 early in the morning - just in time for sunrise at 6:08 at the crater of Haleakala at 10,000 feet! But the view is worth the exertion! :-) Read more

Bryan S

Go VERY early if you want to see the stars pre sunrise . I arrived 1:15 before sunrise and the light pollution from car headlights & flashlights was annoying. U can still see stars but early is better

Pamela Liou

Don't do the bike ride ! A car nearly hit me, and I fell, injuring my knee and staying in crutches for the rest of my stay. At the hospital they told me they see daily injuries from the bike tours .

Richard Wallass

Climb to the summit minimum 4 hours in advance if you plan to watch the sunset . Take warm clothes . It's really cold and windy.

Filmsquare

A film crew spent 3 days filming the surrounding sky from the summit of Haleakalā to project onto a 270° curved screen as the backdrop of the skytower in Oblivion (2013)

Canon's camera is indispensable item.Bring this to take a picture of the star. And then Mr.jun ,"yodobashi-jun Big camera-jun",teaches you how to take the beautiful stars.Thanks,jun.See you next time.

Kara Smith

Seriously cold. Like unbearably freezing with wind chills. It's pretty but you really need to wear as many layers as possible, and don't forget your feet. Toes get extra cold, layer on those socks!

Chris Smith

Dress warm and definitely bring your best camera . Also worth using a tour guide that lets you bike ride down the mountain afterwards.

Jody Reale

The sunset from Haleakala is good too--and you don't have to worry about leaving well before dawn to get there in time! (and no bikers.)

Buncy R

Worth the trip up. Bring a jacket as it can be cold depending on the time day. Spectacular view . Words can not describe the site and view

Giles Douglas

Bike up here from Paia - its the longest paved climb on earth. And it rarely gets steep. Stop for water at the sunrise market and just past the ranger station. Downhill is quite safe too.

Preethi Kannath

The windy and dark drive was totally worth it. Splendid sunrise ! Please do wear a heavy jacket and a cap. There is a 40F difference in temp from the shore to the summit!

Pavan Kulkarni

If you are lucky with a lot of clouds that day then you'll see a spectacular sunrise

Stella Chen

Order you tickets in advance and dress warm! Veryyyy chilly at the summit ???? but worth it!

Vansi

Sunset on the summit is absolutely amazing! You can feel the earth rotating as the sun goes down and the moon comes up.

The Ritz-Carlton

Watching sunrise from the peak of 10,000-foot Mt Haleakala is worth the bleary-eyed early start. But don't forget to wrap up warm. And stay a while. The kaleidoscopic dawn colours are sublime.

Allison Kaminski

Epic views !!! From the top you feel like you are on another planet. Biking tours look fun

Akshay Jawharkar

Go to watch the sunrise . Get here way before dawn, parking fills up fast and might be hard to get a good glimpse of the sunrise over the clouds .

Bill Murphy

Sunrise is amazing...little chilly so dress warm or just hang inside the vistors center till the lady inside tells you when the sun is coming up then head outside....

Lauren Docktor

Sunrise was unbelievably beautiful but so so cold. A local told us after that sunset is just as incredible without needing to wake up at 3...

Shaka Guide

Highly recommend taking the Shaka Guide self-driving tour app on the way up. Very entertaining and informative. www.shakaguide.com

The drive up and down to Haleakalā's summit, make "The Road To Hana" look like child's play. Do not look down.

Andy Walden

The tallest peak of Haleakalā — at 3055 м (10023 ft) — Pu‘u‘ula‘ula looks down into a crater 11.25 × 3.2 kм (7 × 2 miles) and nearly 800 м (2600 ft) deep. The name means “Red Hill ” in Hawaiian.

angel mels

Been here twice. Be there before 5.30 to catch the glorious sunrise . Very cold weather & windy, prepare very thick jacket , pants & hat + sunglass! Hotel blanket will be useful :)

Brett Lider

Bicycle up here if you're hardcore, drive up here if you are not. The dawn drive is over-rated. Come in the afternoon and it is just as cool.
