Pu‘u ‘ula‘ula (Haleakalā Summit)

Most beautiful sunrise you will ever see. From Lahaina, the trip is about 1.5-2 hrs to the Summit. Arrive by no later than 6am in winter. Bring water and jacket/blanket, as temps can drop to 20-30°F.

It's 100% worth going for the sunrise . Leave early enough to arrive at least one hour before sunrise so you can see stars. Wear warm-ish clothing because it can be cold.

Don't be put off by the early start time. You will not regret this. Hang around after sunrise and wait for everyone to leave. Do the walk into the crater. Peaceful and unique landscape.

If you look towards the South, you can actually get a glimpse of ???? Mauna Kea on the Big Island . If you’re here by the sunset , make sure you wait another hour for the stars.

Whatever you do, don’t leave right after sunrise . Everyone else leaves immediately. Instead, explore other views for pictures, and later go a bit down the trail into the crator. Wear sunscreen .

Amazing sunrise location. Dress warm and be prepared for quite a crowd, but it's well worth it. If you can stand the cold, get your spot at least 45 minutes before sunrise .

Bring blankets and winter jackets as the wind makes it really cold at 10000 ft. Bring picnic food for a lovely sunset . Hide in the warming hut till the stars come out, best seen when there's no moon.

Great view . Take warm clothes if you plan to come here. And come early if you want to see the sunset cause the parking is limited.

Its about 20 degrees cooler at the summit than at sea level. Driving up in the middle of the night is a little intimidating, but so worth it to be on top of the clouds .

It's a true experience hard to fit into words????. Make sure you leave early to be there by 5:30 a.m. latest. & warm clothes highly recommended. We went in shorts & light jacket . Not comfortable ????.

Really one of those unique places on earth. The terrain could be straight out of a sci-fi movie . If you can go either for sun set or sun rise as it's quite an amazing sight.

Go VERY early if you want to see the stars pre sunrise . I arrived 1:15 before sunrise and the light pollution from car headlights & flashlights was annoying. U can still see stars but early is better

Don't do the bike ride ! A car nearly hit me, and I fell, injuring my knee and staying in crutches for the rest of my stay. At the hospital they told me they see daily injuries from the bike tours .

Climb to the summit minimum 4 hours in advance if you plan to watch the sunset . Take warm clothes . It's really cold and windy.

Seriously cold. Like unbearably freezing with wind chills. It's pretty but you really need to wear as many layers as possible, and don't forget your feet. Toes get extra cold, layer on those socks!

Dress warm and definitely bring your best camera . Also worth using a tour guide that lets you bike ride down the mountain afterwards.

The sunset from Haleakala is good too--and you don't have to worry about leaving well before dawn to get there in time! (and no bikers.)

Bike up here from Paia - its the longest paved climb on earth. And it rarely gets steep. Stop for water at the sunrise market and just past the ranger station. Downhill is quite safe too.

The windy and dark drive was totally worth it. Splendid sunrise ! Please do wear a heavy jacket and a cap. There is a 40F difference in temp from the shore to the summit!

Sunset on the summit is absolutely amazing! You can feel the earth rotating as the sun goes down and the moon comes up.

Watching sunrise from the peak of 10,000-foot Mt Haleakala is worth the bleary-eyed early start. But don't forget to wrap up warm. And stay a while. The kaleidoscopic dawn colours are sublime.

Go to watch the sunrise . Get here way before dawn, parking fills up fast and might be hard to get a good glimpse of the sunrise over the clouds .

Sunrise is amazing...little chilly so dress warm or just hang inside the vistors center till the lady inside tells you when the sun is coming up then head outside....

Sunrise was unbelievably beautiful but so so cold. A local told us after that sunset is just as incredible without needing to wake up at 3...

The drive up and down to Haleakalā's summit,make "The Road To Hana" look like child's play. Do not look down.

The tallest peak of Haleakalā — at 3055 м (10023 ft) — Pu‘u‘ula‘ula looks down into a crater 11.25 × 3.2 kм (7 × 2 miles) and nearly 800 м (2600 ft) deep. The name means “Red Hill ” in Hawaiian.

Been here twice. Be there before 5.30 to catch the glorious sunrise . Very cold weather & windy, prepare very thick jacket , pants & hat + sunglass! Hotel blanket will be useful :)

Bicycle up here if you're hardcore, drive up here if you are not. The dawn drive is over-rated. Come in the afternoon and it is just as cool.
