Amazing old Sam Smith's pub : real fires, low ceilings, cubby holes, a wonderful basement beer hall without mobile signal. Like drinking in another age; sawdust on the floor, people talk to each other.
Frequented by Mark Twain, Voltaire, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Oscar Wilde, the pub was rebuilt in 1667 after the Great Fire of London. Expect cramped staircases and sawdust-strewn floors. Read more
Beautiful atmospheric pub . Loads of little interesting rooms to drink in. Listed in the National inventory of historic pub interiors. Great beer .
Definitively the best in the "Ye Olde" category of pubs . Btw rumor has been around since 1538. Pull up the Wikipedia page and read it aloud to your buddies!
Fun fact: William Shakespeare used to spend a lot of time here; ask your waiter which table he usually sat at. Try the bangers and mash with a refreshing beer .
This pub is one of the oldest in London, so the atmosphere is beyond cosy. You might want to go to a different pub when itʼs sunny outside as there's almost no daylight coming in.
Mind thy head and watch thy step and enjoy a pint among literary ghosts . The Cheese is a testament to the British and their ability to maintain motor functioning while imbibing. Cheers!
An amazing restaurant/ bar in London. Many levels to the building with the main bar in the basement . Had a great Sheppard pie while there. Would definitely go back if in London.
Such a gem! Oldest pub in London bringing you back in the days. Would come back for sure, in the dining room for the full experience!
Amazing!!! A bunch of small rooms, passages and low ceilings. Big room with a Christmas tree at the most low level of the building. A chimney near the pubman is amazing. London pub spirit is alive.
Worth a visit if you r in London. Small meals are served downstairs in the cellar bar . Beer and cider on the tap. If u r really hungry, dining area at street level serves the main courses.
Lovely old pub with lots of character. Great beer . The food is delicious. What's not to like? It's like going to the museum while having a beer and great meal all in one.
One of the oldest pubs in London . Opened just after the great fire of London in 1666. It has multiple bars and a wine vault. Rooms are small and being a tall guy I had to duck through doorways.
Excellent, sprawling, and ancient! Have been here more times than I can count. Whenever someone visits this is on the list. And Samuel Smiths organic lager is always a good choice.
Great Sam Smith's pub . No phone signal so can be hard to find people if you're meeting them there. Mind your head going down the cellar, but it's well worth getting down there. Good food too.
Panini is not typical English but we had one of the best lunch here ... Tomato , basil and mozzarella panini with corn chips (only available before 5pm)
What a pub should be. This place has been around forever, and that comes across the moment you walk in. Lots of rooms and nooks to have a pint, and above average pub grub .
The oldest pub in London , and one of the coolest. Explore it a bit. It's a Sam Smith's, so enjoy the £2.85 Bitter. Nice crisps too.
The quintessential English pub frequented by many historical figures (Samuel Johnson, Mark Twain, etc). Food service until 10pm!
great pub ! dickens, doyle, twain drank here! go downstairs into the cellars to feel the medieval atmosphere.
The oldest pub of London, rebuilt in 1667 after the big fire. Go downstairs to discover different rooms. Serves Samuel Smith 's beers .
This is a fascinating Dickensian pub experience. They've managed to make it an attraction without it being cheesy. You do still get a few Americans saying 'gee, look at this'.
Quaint pub with tiny, dimly lit rooms, nice open fire and inexpensive ales .
Cozy traditional pub , the eldest in town . A pint there should be on your "must do" list for London.
Very traditional, including the warmth of the wood-burning fireplace . Definitely recommend!
Traditional and very rare British ales , stouts and lagers in a pub that is more than 300 years old. What more can you want?
One of the Oldest pubs in London ; very popular with tourists and city folk. Only a ten minute stroll from St Pauls Cathedral
Awesome atmosphere and a good selection of cheap pints. Food is decent too
Great little pub.....a bit different to the usual. So much history as claims to be the oldest pub in the city rebuilt after the Great Fire.
This Fleet Street landmark was rebuilt back in 1667 ('in the reign of King Charles II'), and its seventeenth-century history is in large part responsible for its twenty-first-century appeal. Read more
explore the place with ANY pint of lager (you wont get any branded lager / cola/ crisps here) - just love the atmosphere in there! pies are served on weekdays :)
The oldest pub in London ! Been there under various names since before the great fire! Was my lunchtime local when working at PwC!
Amazing pub . One of the last places in London where you can order a nice and tradicional kidney pie .
Opening shortly after the Great Fire, this ancient pub was regularly visited by Dr Johnson when he was taking a break from writing the first English dictionary, at his home in nearby Gough Square.
Lovely atmosphere. History everywhere. Tasty cider .
Lovely cosy pub with so much history. Watch our for your heads if your going downstairs
Awesome pub with a great cask selection. Pretty big space . Def worth a visit.
The oldest pub in London with several bar areas spread within. It's much bigger than it looks from the outside.
Nice ale (Sam Smith) & clearly a lot of history but I found it a bit dark and not very friendly . Try the Old Bank of England pub instead (nearby)
One of the best pubs in London ! History, multiple levels and a reasonable draft beer selection
Cool place, it's like going back in time. Old, dark and murky but way cool. A bit crowded certain evenings (popular after work)
Follow in the footsteps of Charles Dickens and get a lovely cold pint at this historic pub ! This is a great place for lunch too.
Probably my favourite pub in London , such unsymmetrical, oddly shaped rooms, it's great!
Sure, it's got history, but this place stinks and I'm not a fan of Sam Smith beers . Tall folks watch out, you'll clip your head in the low areas.
One of the very few authentic Olde pubs in London . Great ales and good food.
Great, characterful place for a drink!!! Your mobile will fight for signal though, recommend flight mode.
Steak and ale pie , one of the classics to try
Lovely traditional pub with the friendliest staff around. A hidden gem .
Oldest pub in London . Maze like layout, very interesting~
It's good enough for Charles Dickens , it's good enough for you. Seriously, this is a great pub , even beyond the history. Fine selection of reasonably priced beers , great food, friendly staff .
Great burgers, excellent beef rib & chicken pies and fantastic atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit even if just to have a look around this art nouveau masterpiece! - Margot West
Rib eye roast beef was great, as was the sausage and mash. The whole roast chicken dinner will feed plenty. - Martin Broadhurst
Beautiful and stuning cathedral! My fav place in London so far! The restaurant is also very nice! - Juli Foranna Juliero
Beautiful pub. Lovely Hungarian staff. A must see in London. Serves fuller's. - Eduardo Molina
If they have their guest ale, More, on tap I highly recommend it. Dark, nutty, delicious. - ukleon
