The view is much closer from the back (aka the northern side) but access is typically restricted back there during the day. They open it up at night sometimes so take advantage when they do. - Josh E.

Everyone should take a tour of the White House...but you'll need to make reservations in advance of your trip. Rather, you'll need to schedule your trip around the reservation. But highly worth it. - JoJo Demirel
